Newbie advice for 182 purchase £££

  RenaultSport clio 172
Hello Boys and Girls

I am new to the forum although i have been searching through the threads.

I have had my 99 Fiesta zetec since it was a year old (first car) and after months and months of trying to find a car that would satisfy me i have decided on a 182.

I have found an example that i am test driving tomorrow (Friday 16th Dec) from an independant dealer. I have had a look round it, and its MINT!

04 Reg
Silver
Both Cup packs
18,000 miles
£8995

Firstly, i know this is a good price, so am somewhat sceptical!
What kind of things should i look out for on this motor to see if it is a dud?

Heres to a potential new beginning :rasp: :rasp: :rasp:

Seems a fair price......though i paid 3k more n got a brand new, black gold, uk spec 182 with both cup packs....

Seems a little cheap to me seen as its "Mint" - How many previous owners? When you say an independant Dealer who are you talking about? Not some pikey at the local Car Supermarket are you? Is it an import? If you do go for it, then make sure the warranty is still in tact, and do all the basic checks. I'm sure it will be fine.

when i bought my 172 from a local dealer, it seemed a little cheaper (for year & mileage) when compared to parkers guide,
But i bought it anyway & it's fine.. that was a 53plate 172 cup 1 owner with 8k miles on it for £8.2k a while back now though.
I was a little unsure to begin with as it was cheaper than i've seen them privately with way more miles on.
I just made sure it was a uk car with no accidents etc (i was actually buying it from the dealer it was sold from originally i think)
and it's still under warranty if anything happens.

that guide is pretty accurate...mine was an 04 with 14k on the clock in july and i paid 10250 for it from a renault garage in hemel hempstead

price seems pretty good they have dropped loads in the last couple of months since i got mine:(

well..........it has a little scuff on the front left wheel, and it had a dent in the roof (dont ask me how) that got repaired and has left tiny bubbles not in the paint work but in the metal work. You cant really see it buts it the same circumference as the base of a champagne glass.

It is a UK car, bought from a Renault Dealership in Oxford and has had one owner that originally registered it on his company (two on the log book). The owner then p/a for a Land Rover (stupid person) and then the dealership sold it on to where it is now, probably because the dealer only sells Land Rovers.

The dealership that the car is at now is a reputable local dealership

(PLEASE DONT BUY IT BEFORE I DO)

It has the remainder of the Renault Warranty - 18 months

I know what you mean but i was originally going to get a mk2 172 but though i might as well spend the extra grand or so on the 182 with a warranty, i cant really strech another 3k just to get a new one!

Do you regret your decision then Alan?

Any probs with the motor? I have to say on the forum there arent many reports about problems with Renaults. I think there is a stigma about Renault and reliability but i dont think its as bad as they say. I worked for Renault UK on my placement year and had no problems with the motors and my old dear has had a Megane dci 120 for 18 months now, hasnt seen a garage since she picked it up!!!

i would say test drive a brand spanking new 182 from a renault dealer, then you have a bench mark for a totally straight one.

odds are this silver one is all correct and present, but then you have got a benchmark. i would definetely drive a few before lay9ing your money down.

i drove an 03 plate 172, a cup and then decided on the 182 afterwards. I think i should hacve driven some more, but a few is better than none!

Just drove the clio!!!!

It was spot on apart from when releasing my hands from the steering wheel it went to the lefft slightly, what do you think the problem is, the chap at the dealership said it might be cause the air pressure was down 2lb on the front left tyre but im not so sure this would make a difference.

I really want it but need to know if this is a serious problem!!!

  Pikey Truck
Im lookin at 1 today, arctic blue, both cup packs, 5k on the clock 05 plate, and according to the dealers its immaculate!

he should have checked the tyres were ok before hand..

get him to fix it and have another drive

if it doe sit again stay away.
befor eyou do hand out the cash get them to do you a HPI check to prove its all ok..

  RenaultSport clio 172
I asked him to fix it but all he said he could do is swap the wheels over (like that would make a difference)!

Suppose it wouldnt be covered by renault warranty either! WHHYYYYY!

  Black/Gold 182
^^
I'd tell him he'd better try harder than that. If he wants your money then he should get it fixed.

stay well away from it if hes not prepared to fix it.. could have hit a kerb and done thousands of pounds worth of damage to make it pull to one side..
