Newbie - ordering 182 Cup

Hey guys Im totally new here but have been reading for a few days. Im about to order me up an orange 182 Cup, so hope to be joining the fray real soon. This site seems the ideal place to hang out and talk anything Clio, so you can expect to hear more from me!

Ive got a quote for £12380 OTR from drivethedeal.com (UK car inc. met. orange) and wondered if you guys knew anywhere cheaper? Ill be ordering next week. Ive been told by a main dealer to expect an 8 week wait...does this sound about right? Anyone got any tips for buying and owning? Other than just enjoying it!

I was a massive fan of the Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi and Clio Williams. Currently scooting around in a crappy Fiat Stilo company car, with a Pug 306 XSi on the drive ready to sell.

I have driven two Honda CTRs, and I loved the engine and gearbox, but tbh I think the 182Cup will smoke it on a twisty lane. Just couldnt hook up with the road through the CTRs dull as dishwater steering. Ive not driven a Cup but please tell me it steers better than a CTR...?

Welcome to Cliosport:cool:, cant help you with the 182 prices fraid but Im sure some other people can....Oh and nice username lol. Quality film that.....

i assume you mean the 182 cup without leather etc,if so i would buy a normal 182 as you will regret it later, you can get them for about 11.5k -12k or a second hand one with a few miles for 10k-10.8k

Hehehe cheers its a name I use all over the web on other forums. tis indeed a quality film "youre such a loser!"

Anyway thanks for the welcome mate...always been a drivers car enthusiast, but the old Pug 306 Xsi was about as far as I got. Fantastic car to drive but too old & slow now. Company car forced me not to bother getting a newer machine.

Looking forward to the Clio!

Thanks but I really want the handling that the Cup car promises. Im sure the non-cup is good though. Finance is critical here though, so I dont want to pay more for the heavier 182 and then add the Cup packs to get marginally less poke for more cash. Open to suggestions though. new to the modern Clio scene which is why I joined up here :)

dont know if your confused or me but you can get a normal 182 with cup packs or a 182 cup, the only difference between the 2 is 182 with cup packs has all the goodies and costsa little more also it weighs very slightly more, the 182 cup doesnt have leather seats, or zenon lights or engine cover or headlight washers, and i think you get manual aircon

the suspension is the same between the two so the handling will be exactly the same

the seats on the 182 cup are horrible you will regret it believe me, there is no real speed difference either

Thanks for the input so far. As a newbie - whats the major benefit of the 182 fitted with Cup kits? Apart from the obviosu like leather trimmed seats, spangly headlights and cliamte control? The Cup is still specced well and is maaaaaaaaarginally faster right? No?

in the real world no its no faster, i had a 172 cup before this and that was faster than the normal 172 as it had proper serious weight saving, but there was no real difference between that and a 172 and in the end i wanted the extra luxuries so got a 182 with cup packs

Cross posted, yeah I realise they will end up the same handling but with the normal 182 having more kit, but should I be worried about it? The Cup is lighter and seems the better deal to me. Youre staring to convince me otherwise though. I also want the metalic orange colour...is the 182 available in this? I want a car thats going to be recognisable as the last of the old school hot hatches...not one with added bits. Seems daft yeah, but Im unsure now.

Cheers, not sure if I need any luxuries beyond air-con though to be honest, and that litle cup badge might mean a lot in a few years. Ill have to have a minor rethink though before I decide...thanks for the feedback :)

Sweet machine! My main question now - can you get the 182 (non-cup) in the metalic orange colour? Im sold on that colour.

Yes you can get a 182 (non cup) in orange and then its £350 to add the cup spoiler pack and cup suspension pack.

182 cup is exactly the same car as the 182 with cup bits but it weighs 20kg less and loses loads of kits. The handling will be the same and the difference in performance may be 0.1 secs to 100

End of the day its upto you though mate, but the seats in the 182 cup are awful

Trouble is, no matter where I look, the Cup is still a fair bit cheaper than the 182, which is paramount to me.

I own a valver and if i had the choice i would have the normall 182. jus get an induction kit if you want it to be as fast as a cup. Cuz thats all you will need. lol. Hardly any difference performance wise.

  MINI JCW

you will pay about 1k more for the 182 with cup bits than the 182 cup, if you can afford it then i would go for the 182 with cup bits if not buy the cup, you could even consider a 172 cup

as for waiting list, i bought mine from the renault dealer and it took just over 10 weeks, and it arrived on time

Mate I would go for the Cup. Firstly you aint gonna be pullin birds or impressing anyone with a Clio. You certainly aint going to convince anyone that its a quality motor - leather seats or not.

The Cup is quicker, some may say marginally but quicker it is. The cars one and only selling point is its performance, thats all its about. Therefore why compromise the performance on silly little things that dont mean anything?

You also dont have to worry about the leather seats getting scagged by someone or cracking in the sun.

Another bonus is no headlight washers so you dont have to worry about balls flying out or the damn things cracking and leaking.

Despite my complaints, if my car was written off tonight I would go out and buy another 182 but it would probably be a Cup (in the red colour) and it would have to be cheaper than the cheapest I could get a standard model. Certainly you might regret getting the Cup if you paid the same as someone else paid for the standard model.

If its £800 to £1000 less than a 182 then yeah I support it. I dont know whether it attracts the same discounts as a normal 182 with Cup packs though. Obviously I paid less for my full fat version with all the Cup packs and met paint than the list price of the Cup. Id be pretty cheesed off if I paid list for a Cup then came on here and saw what you lot had paid for your standard models.

Thanks guys, Im going for the Cup. Its at least a grand cheaper where ever I look, and to be honest I couldnt give a toss for the extras the standard 182 offers. As has been said, this car is all about peformance and handling, not leather seats and spangly headlamps.

Cheers for the advice though. Im sure itll be a great car even without leather seats ;)

Our local Renault would rarther discount a 182 with cup packs than sell a 182cup.

No offence mate, but your local Renault wants to make money. If what you say is true, theyre making more money by doing so, they aint doing it cos they prefer either car over the other.

...as I have too. Luxuries, at the end of the day, mean s*** when youre faced with a windy back road, the suns shining, youve got some heat in the tyres, and a huge grin on your face.

Thats why Ive got a 172 Cup... it does exactly what it promises too :D

  MINI JCW

The car is mostly about performance but you wont drive it at its full potential for hardly any off the time, so its nice to have the gadgets.

Toypop i think your wrong, i think anoyone who has a 182 in very forunate as most people would love to have a 182, so it probably is seen as a good motor

I think both camps will always try to justify their choice to be honest. The 182 owners will convince themselves that that a special windcreen and climate control make all the dif, while the Cup buyers will convince themselves that air-con and cruise are all they need minus leather for a grand. Its all good. The car is a damn fine machine by all accounts and I cant wait to get my orange Cup :D

i had a 306 xsi before my 182..the 182 is fantastic compared to the 306...so much better...highly recommended...

havent gone over 4000 rpm yet cos its new and it still flies!

it is as loud as the 306 in the cabin however....but the performance makes up for it...

  MINI JCW

its only loud in the 182 when you are doing high revs, before that its pretty quiet. By brother who has a 330ci loves the sound of the engine, thats suprising becuase he usually reckons that 16v 4 cylinder engines sound crap.

I love the noise when you hit 5000 rpm!

you price of £12380 could be better, i was offered a normal 182 with cup packs for £12.500 from a renault dealer, so im sure the cup should be less.
