yeh so did i with the 172 cup but i regreted it in the end and 172 cups were special (unique colour better wheels, faster ), its only my opinion dont take it seriously im just trying to help as i had regrets even after being so confident that i wanted the cup.Quote: Originally posted by Bealo on 05 December 2004
Hi Roy
I have just bought a Cup and love it to bits. Im the same as you i bought the car to razz around in and wanted to get it a cheap as possible and got my car from my dealer for 10999 with lots of haggling.
This talk about which one is better is starting to wear thin, each to their own i wont regret buying a cup in three months (182blue) because i bought THE CAR that I want.
I am only in the country for three months a year so having an EVO 7 loosing silly money in my garge didnt make sence so that is why i bought the Cup, yes it is cheaper and lower specced but i really couldnt care less.
Anyway Roy whatever you choose im sure it will be right for you and im sure you will enjoy it.
Cup came from the racing series and i agree renault could have gone further with the stripping out but it was in fact a homo special!Quote: Originally posted by Toypop on 05 December 2004
Just a point of order.
The 172 Cup was hardly a stripped out homologation special.
It still had far too much crap in it. I have no idea where this whole idea of a "Cup" brand name came from.
The 182 carries over the suspension revisions from the 172 Cup but with further improvements and increased power output. A 182 with Cup packs deserves to be called a Cup every bit as much as the 172 Cup.
Yeah I agree, lifes too short not to get some enjoy from the things you love! Such as cars! Just insuranceis letting me down.Quote: Originally posted by hoe261 on 05 December 2004
Thats exactly the way i see it mate! If it doesnt work out you just sell the car - so what, only live once, why not have some fun!
whos that with ??Quote: Originally posted by Roy Munson on 05 December 2004
Im looking at £520 with no claims protector. Seems pretty good to me for such a rapid machine.
Thats sensible and yeah each to their own! I just cant help thinking its little more than a badge exercise but nonetheless it would be that much sharper than the 182 (albeit 20kg shaper)!!Quote: Originally posted by Roy Munson on 05 December 2004
I appreciate the ongoing advice, but how can you be fooled into buying the cheaper car, that is marginally (if at all) sharper, because you dont require leather seats and a bunch of other stuff you might not want to pay for?
Sorry but I still dont get the logic. Some of you guys seem to think the Cup isnt as pure as the 172 Cup because it has too may luxuries, and of course youd be right, but how does going for the even heavier, more luxurious car, make sense in that context? I genuinely dont understand.
Anyway the last thing I want to do is appear as some arguing newbie. I do totally agree that in real terms, the Cupped 182 is a better car than the Cup, but I dont agree that its a better value car (for me anyway) Everyones priorities are different of course.
I just cant wait to get my order placed now!
True, I went from a 306 Rallye to a 172 Cup and the Clio was positively luxurious in comparison...Quote: Originally posted by Toypop on 05 December 2004

This is meant to be Renaults top hot hatch...and it has a steering wheel from the Dynamique! Why? To save weight?Quote: Originally posted by Jeremy Townsend on 06 December 2004
The steering wheels are different. The 182 Cup has the one from the Dynamique, still leather though. The182 version has a thicker rim with the rubber thumb grips.
