next detailing order...

hello all,

sorted my washing and drying order last month ( http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=62849 )and this time want to finish off what I need to add to my detailing collection.

i've complied a small list for claying, polishing and waxing and think the only thing left for these steps are applicator pads and buffing towels.
buffer.gif

can anyone think of anything else I might need for these steps? the list so far is as follows:

megs quik clay kit
megs g220 sonus kit
dodo juice orange crush

things im thinking of also are:

dodo juice lime prime (will the 250ml bottle do? its for a clio 172 and what difference does it make using it compared to going striaght on with the wax?)
foam applicator pads (how many of these should I purchase?)
microfibre cloth towels (how many of these should I purchase? and would these be ok for getting into the door shuts etc and also for use on the engine bay?)

after this its just engine bay, wheels and glass. can anyone point me in the right direction as to which products are recommended and also the applicators needed to apply these? one last thing, the amount of metal on the car is minimum. would any of the products already mention clean these up well or would I need something specific?

many thanks all

btw so far all of these products have been found on cleanyourcar.co.uk

The Lime Prime will clean up paint nicely for the way.

You may need a proper polish to use after claying if you have any defects to correct.

Foam hand pads you can never have to many have at least one or two per product. Same for towels. You can use the towels to apply and remove products.

Engine bay and wheels clean with Megs All Purpose Cleaner or Autoglym Engine and Machine Cleaner.

Polish and Seal the wheels with Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Extra Gloss Protection.

Engine bay paintwork and metalwork can be polished with Super Resin and Plastics dressed with Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care.

Exterior Glass may clean up nicely with the Lime Prime, I have never tried it though.

^ I agree with the Treen-mesiter here, but can I just say SRP is great for polishing the glass, especially by machine.

hello Rich and thanks for the reply.

do you think the 250ml bottle of dodo juice lime prime will be enough for the clio?

when you say 'proper polish' to correct the paintwork if there are any defects will the sfx-3 final finish polish that comes with the megs g220 sonus kit do?

i'll sort out a few of the applicator pads then, there only £1 each from cleanyourcar.

as for the mf towels, can you recommend any? seen a few on cleanyourcar which come in packets of 3, thinking these may be good to keeping costs down...

for the wheels would the chemicals guys wheel guard do the same job as the AG SRP & EGP? just thinking another way to save money.

i'll try the lime prime on the glass, if it doesn't work i'll ge some of the AG glass polish. used this before and was very impressed with it.

You will probably need something stronger than SFX-3

can you recommend anything mate?
thinking just to maybe use the sfx-3 as it comes in the megs g220 sonus kit and then change to something else once thats all gone??

250ml bottle will be more than enough. a little goes a long way.

cheers mate, i'll whack this in the basket. i take it just apply with a foam applicator pad and then buff off with a mf towel?

rich, so far i've counted a min of 5 foam applicator pads and mf towels:

lime prime prior to waxing and for the glass
waxing with dodo juice
megs all purpose cleaner in the engine bay
one for something to polish the engine bay paintwork
chemical guys wheel guard or other for the wheels

does this look right? and can you please recommend some decent mf towels?

thank you

How bads the paint?

I dont rate sonus polish very much the work times are to short. Menz miles ahead.

Sonus pads are very good though.

There's a difference between foam applicator pads and mf applicators, you should use the foam applicators for wax (cost about £1 each) and mf applicators for glazes, sealant and cleaners/ mild polishes like Lime Prime. They are the cuboid shape things.

I would also look to get a German Applicator pad, they are good for getting a bit more "bite" when polishing.

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
would you guys use the german aplicator to apply supernatural? if so, which side.. red of white?

^ I would use the foam applicators I mentioned, just a matter of preference I guess but find it easier to fit in a pot of wax. I would get some though, after forking out such a lot of money for Supernatural its worth it.

I definitely prefer the foam applicators for applying wax, i mis-read Ben's post as being could you use the german applicator, but given the choice i'd agree with you and go with the foam applicators for ease of use.

The wheel guard will not last as long as SRP and EGP will do on the wheels. Towels I have a mixture of Sonus, Poorboys and Pakshak, all are good.

Polishes of you have a machine polisher get Menzerna Intensive Polish and Final Finish. If working by hand look at the Carlack Hand polish bundle

I would double the towels and applicators, during wax removal you can easily use two towels, maybe more if you drop one or something silly.

For MFs...you might not be but my mum bless her cotton socks bought me a bag of 50 I think cloths for £5, not THE best quality but perfect for rough work, wheels, windows, engines and seals and at that price you can afford to throw them away if you want. I actually have two black bags FULL of cloths, pads, sponges used for dressings, mitts, drying towels...must sort them all out its getting a bit mad!
