So what's the difference between the mk1 and mk2 ktec stealths?

Ones older and ones newer? ;)

Not too sure to be quite honest, I just saw Gray call this a MK1 in the for sale thread! They are fairly different in terms of brackets etc, as the older Stealth they are welded, where as the newer ones are the adjustable brackets.

Also, the pipe's are smaller on the older one than the newer one, as my old exhaust clamps didn't fit the exhaust which is now on it! woops!

I just wanted it because it was quieter! (Old man at 21)

FLOL I have the "mk1" on mine I think. I'm after a yozza soon though

Yozza eh, sluuuuuuuuut!

Let me hear it when you get one, I always wanted one :(.

Made a nice little change today :)

Bought a few bits and pieces off of DannyR, thanks once again for the brilliant postage mate!

Goodies that were bought:

Bloody kitten!

I have wanted a new drivers side roof gutter strip for a while now due to the following:

img2011091400381.jpg

img2011091400382.jpg

So, the old one came off!

img2011091400383.jpg

And the new one went on!

img2011091400384.jpg

Very happy with the result :).

Mirror covers and fuel flap are going off to "Sprayshack" for some TLC, and will be fitted upon their return, due to the poor(ish) condition of mine :)

Cheers!

Made some huge progress today!

As some of you will know from reading this blog, I am stripping down some hubs, putting new bearings in them etc etc.

Today I managed to get my old wishbones with the Powerflex bushes in, to get them fitted correctly, with the intent to refit them once them have been sandblasted, rewelded and had a lick of paint!

The wishbones that I received off of bomber have also received the same treatment..

Here they are PRE sandblast.

img2011091500386.jpg

img2011091500387.jpg

I then took them to work to have them cleaned up, and they came out like so!

img2011091600392.jpg

img2011091600393.jpg

Looking nice and clean, they then received a lick of:

img2011091600394.jpg

Which had them looking like this:

img2011091600395.jpg

Whilst they dried, I fitted my new exhaust clamps I had bought, as the old ones were too big/falling apart and needed replacing!

img2011091600396.jpg

Not too fond of the way I have to jack the car up though. Think I need a new jack!

I want a Costco one, but there isn't a local one and I do not have a card :(

img2011091600397.jpg

Once the car was jacked and on stands, I set about removing the current wishbones:

img2011091600398.jpg

img2011091600399.jpg

Whilst the temporary replacements were still drying:

img2011091600400.jpg

Powerflexed ones needing some TLC, and some replacement metal sleeves!

img2011091600401.jpg

Now these have been removed. I will be removing the metal sleeves and attempting to source some new ones from Powerflex. I will then sandblast these wishbones, get the new sleeves welded in the correct position, paint them with the ol'Hammerite and slap them back on! Jobs a good'un ;).

Once the temp replacement wishbones had dried (ish) I set about fitting them back onto the car:

img2011091600403.jpg

img2011091600405.jpg

(Look at my nice straight sill ;) ooooo)

Whilst I was down there, I felt the need to give some things a little freshen up, so the brake calipers saw another coat of VHT Satin black paint. The hub and ARB saw some Hammerite!

img2011091600402.jpg

img2011091600404.jpg

Done!

By the time I had finished and dropped her back down, it was dark :(

img2011091600406.jpg

And that is how the car finished for the night. But not me..

I set about finishing the strip down of my new hubs and driveshafts!

I managed to get the very very tight hub nut undone with some serious force, and had them looking like this by the end of the night :)

img2011091600408.jpg

img2011091600409.jpg

Apologies for the blurry picture .

I also started cleaning the bearings up. I thought these were sealed units, but obviously I was mistaken!

The bearings in these hubs look to be in VGC, almost new!

So instead of replacing them, I will be cleaning all of the old grease out, and repacking them with some SKF bearing grease to keep them running silky smooth!

img2011091600410.jpg

Along with the standard wire brush down and paint, as you would expect ;).

I also have no idea where this came from!

img2011091600411.jpg

It popped out when we drove the hub out of the bearing, and I have no idea where to put it back!

Only happened on the one side as well! Hmm!

After a very dirty day working on the car. That is how I left things for the night, to be picked up again at some point on the weekend.

Nothing a good old shower couldn't fix!

Thanks for reading :)

Don't need a Costco jack,

Machine mart do a cracking extra low entry one that come in at about £102. I'd never but anything else personally!

Nooooooo!!!!

The machine mart one is a crap version of the costco one!

It's basically a smaller version, prone to bending/snapping. Cancel order if possible.

Oh :(

I want a Costco one! But there isn't one locally, and I do not know anyone with a card! :(

Will cancel the order now and go on the prowl for another!

Where's the nearest costco??

I found that people on here are pretty helpful with regards to meeting up and buying it for you if they have a card.

Ask around :)

Few little updates from today!

I have started the disassembly of my old wishbones with the Powerflex bushes.

I will be removing the collars next. Sourcing a new set. Sandblasting them, refitting the collars and then painting them.

img2011091800418.jpg

I also started painting up my new hub/driveshaft assembly that is going to be fitted.

Ignore the glossy finish, they will be Satin/Matte black when they are fully dry :)

img2011091800419.jpg

img2011091800420.jpg

img2011091800421.jpg

That's pretty much all for today!

Will be getting the wing mirror covers and fuel flap resprayed soon, I just don't fancy spending the cash at the moment.

Will also be following my list, and getting my wheels done at some point!

Cheers :)

My jack? I can try to go get you one at some point, but it'd be a long drive to pick it up! LOL

Haha yeah I was joking about selling me yours!

260 mile round trip, luuuuurvely stuff.

In all seriousness though, if you could get hold of one, I would gladly pay for snail mail postage to get it here :p

Nickson

£25 quid is cheaper than 260 miles of petrol!

If you could get hold of one that would be amazingly good of you, after all, I did that questionnaire for you ;) haha.

How much are they anyway? Around the £100 mark IIRC? The Machine Mart one was perfect until you said they snapped. Don't fancy dealing with a snapped jack to be honest!

Few little updates to report :)

Been away with work in Birmingham for the last 2 days. On my way home yesterday I picked up a nice little part from Papalaz, thanks for the brilliant service at such short notice mate :).

img2011092100426.jpg

Brand new and unused passenger side drive shaft for a very good price.

This will be replacing the older driveshaft I bought from Bomber to give me two pretty much spanking new driveshafts.

Things were starting to come together! Obviously the top driveshaft is being replaced with the new one:

img2011092100427.jpg

The next job I wanted to do was tidy up the hubs, give them a coat of Hammerite for a bit of protection from the elements:

img2011092100428.jpg

Wire brushed these down and got them as clean as I possibly could, and gave them a coat of paint:

img2011092100429.jpg

I also painted the remainder of the older shaft.

img2011092100430.jpg

img2011092100431.jpg

These were then left to dry ready for another quick coat tomorrow at some point.

Next on the list of things to do is remove the sleeves and sandblast the following wishbones:

img2011092100432.jpg

As said, they are being blasted and having the sleeves removed. I will somehow acquire some new sleeves from Powerflex, get them welded them in correctly this time around, paint them up, grease them up, and get them refitted to the car.

That is pretty much it for now! Not really any exciting updates, but if everything I want goes to plan, there could be something on the horizon rather soonish ;)

Cheers!

Few little updates from today!

I got in contact with Powerflex about purchasing some new metal sleeves and some grease for my wishbone bushes that I want to refit.

They asked for an address, and the next day they arrived, free of charge! Brilliant service, very happy :).

img2011092400440.jpg

They will be refitted into these wishbones with these bushes etc.

img2011092400441.jpg

The reason for changing the metal sleeves, is that the welding could have bee better, and some of them have come loose. Also, one or two are ovalized. So replacing them free of charge isn't going to do any harm ;).

Also, I decided against re-using the wheel bearings already in the hubs that I bought off of bomber, and have been looking for a replacement set (which are definitely not cheap!).

So I proceeded with removing the old bearings from the hubs. These were very very hard to remove. Copious amounts of penetrating fluid and lots of hammering were required to remove them.

The new bearings will be pressed in before anyone asks ;)

img2011092400442.jpg

I got half way with the other side and gave up for the day as it was proper tiring. (Lazy )

img2011092400443.jpg

That's pretty much it for this weekend!

I will be sourcing some new wheel bearings to compliment my new driveshafts ;)

img2011092400444.jpg

And then putting her all back together, to hopefully, rid me of this very annoying knocking noise on the front!

Cheers! :)

Updates!

The car started making a ticking noise from the passenger side yesterday. Was rather loud, and very very annoying.

I immediately thought it was a stone or something caught in the tyre, but upon inspection, there was nothing.

So today I jacked the car up and got under there, to get a look at what might be making the noise.

img2011100200460.jpg

To be greeted with this:

img2011100200464.jpg

Snapped CV boot gaitor clip, brilliant.

Made a hell of a mess:

img2011100200463.jpg

Instead of replacing the clip, I had 2 brand new shafts in the garage waiting to go on, so this was pretty much the perfect opportunity to get them fitted:

img2011100200466.jpg

I started by spraying penetrating fluid on both hub nuts to aid disassembly.

img2011100200465.jpg

img2011100200467.jpg

And from here on in it was like hell on Earth..

I only have after pictures due to the fact that it took much, much longer than it should have done to swap the shafts over.

I started with the drivers side. Got the hub nut undone. Unbolted the ball joint and the shaft popped off of the box easy as pie. I grabbed a hammer and a drift and made very light work of removing the shaft from the hub. I think it took 2 taps and it was out. Easy!

I think getting the driveshaft through the plastic surrounding it on the drivers side was the hardest part!

I greased up the driveshaft and slotted it home, nice and easy.

Bolted everything up and it was good to go:

img2011100200470.jpg

Very happy with that result.

I then cracked on with the passenger side.

I got covered in grease whilst doing this, somehow there was grease absolutely everywhere, nothing was left untouched!

I removed the hub nut, and tried lightly drifting the shaft out of the hub, in exactly the same manor as I did on the drivers side. No luck.

I tried using a puller to push the shaft out. No luck..

I then had to remove the caliper and disc, and then attached the puller to the hub to try and prise it out.

Still no luck.

Great, at this point it had taken about an hour on the passenger side, so I was starting to get a tad annoyed.

Out came the blowtorch and a huge can of release oil. I was not going to let this driveshaft get the better of me.

After a shittonne of release oil was sprayed, and a good while heating the hub up, I put the puller back on to try and push the shaft out.

Finally, in very very small increments, the driveshaft was moving.

Must have taken me a good hour and a half to 2 hours removing this driveshaft. The most annoying job to date..

I then removed the three bolts holding the gator on the gearbox, and out came the old driveshaft, job done, ready for the bin..

img2011100200471.jpg

Aside from the gator, the shaft was actually in very good condition, ah well!

I then moved on, and got the passenger side fitted, greasing up everything on the way:

img2011100200469.jpg

Nice and new, lovely. You can also see my attempt at cleaning the inside of the wheel. It needed to be done.

With that out of the way, I got around to finally fixing my airbox strap which decided to snap on me!

img2011100200468.jpg

Another job well done.

Once done, I dropped her back on the ground and took her for a drive!

img2011100200473.jpg

RESULT! Fixed my knocking noise!!!

With the driveshafts done, I have decided not to fit new bearings into the hubs I have spare. It would be a waste of money seeing as my current bearings seem absolutely fine.

The list..

(Red denotes a completed task)
  • New washer motor
  • Wheel refurb
  • Cure knocking on front of car - Hopefully with my new purchases.
  • Airbag + SERV Light (again)
  • Exhaust rattling on heatshield.
  • PH2 dash conversion
  • PH2 boot conversion
  • Straighten + Underseal sills (Idea stolen from Adam )
  • Headlight refurb
  • Change front wheel bearings - New purchases
  • Change both drive shafts - New purchases
List is now considerably shorter!

But.. And this is a big BUT.

I may have found/secured myself a new car.. Meaning that the Clio is now up for sale..

I will make a for sale ad when I have the time. Very sad to have to get rid, after all the time/work/money that has gone in, and that can be seen over the last 20 pages.

I have enjoyed every moment with this car, but unfortunately the time has come to move on.

I am looking for around £2500 for it, considering the amount of work an mechanical + cosmetic condition of it.

Just hit 72k as well :(

Thanks for reading.

72k ain't even run in you big gay ;) pitty about the boots but they're time bombs, mine have both been changed within a year.

Very good car for the money mate, you've looked after it well. Any clues as to what you're getting?

Haha, I don't like mileage .

Yeah it's a shame about the boot, but as you say, it was bound to go at some point! Just lucky I had a new one to replace it haha :).

Ah thanks! I was thinking that price was a little high, but we shall see what happens when I post up a for sale ad.

Clues, clues.. Hmm..

Any clue I give will give it away! ;)

Haha hopefully mate :)

Just the clip went. So I went balls out and replaced the whole bloody lot! haha.

I may have to if no-one wants the car, and I am forced to break!

Don't want to think about doing that yet though :(
