Oh dear....clueless modification! (Clio 197)

Noticed a rather clean Clio 197 pull into Tesco car park in Purley.

Middle aged owner walked off, nothing particularly stange in that. Then I spotted what I thought was some weird graphic or vinyl. Wasn't aware of Renault offerering such a thing.

Had a close look and this genius has stuck Ripspeed door sill protecters on the side skirt of the car!!!
What the hell is that all about?

Thing is, if he's hoping to protect against stone chips I'd think again. Those things don't stick on with anything other than sticky back plastic so if that flies off it'll do more than a small chip! lol

Is this some kind of new trend that I don't know about?

I think they might be to stop scratching the skirts when getting in and out of the car :-@?!

I think you're missing the point though, they're not supposed to even be stuck there!!!! lol

They are supposed to go where the Renaultsport ones are on my 225 and on my 172. Came as standard, like this example -

Lol, maybe they can't swing their leg past the door sill when they exit the car ??

I didn't notice him having a false leg or anything. He looked pretty mobile when I saw him getting out of the car.

Think its more a case of another idiot buying a car and clearly knowing nothing about cars!! lol

In theory it's a good idea to prevent scratches, he's just gone about it totally the wrong way! lol!

I would reckon a couple do

Christopher has and wears them with his bright red silk boxers

I'm not being funny though, how many people scratch the sill of their cars themselves there???? lol

Surely a set of mud flaps would have worked better to prevent stone chips. :D

TBF it does look shite but when ever my car is dirty there is always a clean bit on the side skirt where my leg catches (somehow). Maybe if they were red if wouldn't be as bad?

Obviously doesn't know about the clear protection strips you can buy that stop chips and scratches..

Can imagine the sales guy in Halfords rubbing his hands and pi**ing himself laughing watching him put them on ;)

Don't suppose you took a picture of the other side of the car Alex just to see if he'd matched his handy work?

I did think about it but my missus was taking the p!ss calling me a car snob anyway hahaha. So didn't get the chance.

I'd imagine he's applied them on the other side too!!

Never seen the point of things like these.

Ok you want to stop scratches etc, but seeing as you'll be likely to want to do that till you sell it, you'll never enjoy seeing the car without that fitted and imo that looks s**t.
