oh dear :(

  3 Series touring
ok , so i have a beat550 headunit (yeah i know i shouldnt have bothered but it was good for the money).

basicly, apart from the wires not fitting down the back (which will just take time and effort)
the unit kept forgetting the settings like radio stations and the time etc.

Knowing this was to do with the wiring i compared the wiring diagrams and saq that the PERMANENTLY on wire (RED from the battery) was connected to what the unit thought was the one connected through the ignition, and the one that comes on with the ignition (YELLOW) was connected to what the unit thought was the permanent one.....

so i cut them (D'OH:dead:)

and the central locking fuse blew......i then found out that the battery was running low cos of testing the headunit over the last few days without driving.....thats now charged.

but what went wrong, and how the feck do i get the headunit to work ??

thanks guys

cutting them with it still live shouldn't of affected the any fuse unless you cut the ground wire at the same time.

so you have replaced the fuse and it still don't work?

yeah it's the right thing to do (change the red and yellow)

did either of them touch any metal of the car after they were cut?

I guess you just shorted it some how. Easy to do if your not watching/knowing what your doing really.

Where you from?

not that im aware of , i have got a ground going from another calbe on the h/u to the chassis (for grounding so i can watch video) could that be it?

yeah you will of just clipped the live wire on something, next time make sure you disconnect from the battery first to avoid this happening.

From other side of london, would of offered a hand if you were closer.

ok, will do . Thanks!

also , the purple wire on the same ISO plug as the power cables...what does it do cos theres no connector on the corresponding part of the stereo plug

might be rear speakers if there are two, can't remember fully. Its all in the handbook though, with it all being numbered etc.
