oil pump help!!!!:(:(:(:(:(

well ive just had my 172 engine rebuilt and it turns out my pumps fucked my oil light and service light keeps coming on had a mechanic take a look and he rekons the pumps on its way out. if you rev it to about 3k and let the revs drop the engine starts knocking. now how much is a new pump or do they do a rebuild kit and how much of an arse is it to change ?

its about 2-3hours off the top of my head, a knocking engine though mate? that ain't just the oil pump that'll be fucked, did the person who rebuilt it know what they were doing?

yeh its been fully rebuilt he knows his stuff with engines but i spoke to another mechanic and he said it could be the lifters in the head if its got runnning in oil in it may be to thin for the heat? and ive just checked that the oil is also down on min and its leaking abit a out the back of the sump could this also cause a rattling top end and its only when the revs come down from about 2k to 1k it has a little rattle ?

the oil rings were fucked had 40thou of play in them and the bores were ovalled
do you think the oil could be to thin for the heat causing the lifters to rattle?

he does race instruction at bruntingthorpe and its one of the best ferrari lambo mechinics in the country hes taking it on wed for a look over

na doubt it'll be the oil, is the timing spot on???

so it'll have been bored out a wee tad and honed with over size rings, hum

yeh burning 2litres a week it was mike@rentechs old engine that had the throttle bodies on it

maybe ill get the timing check

the engine was bored out over sized pistons new shells re ground crank head was ported polished gas flowed and had the inlets matched im running out of money now so it needs sorting any ideas on what to check first?

yup i opend the bonnet got my old dear to give it a little rev def sounds top end but dosent soun cammy if that make sense the only way i can describe it is when you hear marbles knocking togther thats what it sounds like p.s i hope you have heard marbles hitting each other lol
