Old people with hot hatches!!

  Mk1 172 Exclusive No.17

Pulled out behind a black 182 with 4 people in it, and then drew up next to it on the next roundabout. There were 4 grannies in it!!! I couldnt stop laughing at the sight of 4 little old ladies in a 182 :p

A bit further on I saw a really old bloke peeping his head over the steering wheel of a CTR!!!

How the hell can they control cars like that, they probably cant even see let alone work the clutch etc.

Well the old ladies looked like they were on a W.I. outing, so about 65 - 70.

The old bloke must of been well over 70.

Its great cos when they come to sell it, you know its one thats not been ragged. Just might need a new clutch soon, as they cant control them for toffee.

Just imagine the spaces they try and fit into! urgh makes me cringe the thought!!

Bet some are real careful though, thats someone id buy a car off

What I really dont understand is why they buy such a quick car in the first place.

Surely they will never get the best out of it and say a 1.4 would do them just as good.

not long ago, i saw a guy, must have been at least 80 odd, and he had a brand spanking new scooby, wrx! wasnt doing more than 20 mph! also seen an old guy in a fiesta rs turbo, and one in an escort cosworth.

  172, Tiguan

They just buy the top of the range.

Friend who works for a Nissan dealer says all the old girls come in and buy a Micra, but they always go for the top spec, always.

Nah its just that the car sales man made them signed on the dotted line before they realised what they had actually brought. They prob only took the lada in for a oil change and before you know it they were walking out with a new motor. Knowing car salesmen like I do.

  172, Tiguan

He is a car salesman.

They just walk in and buy the top spec model. Always happens.

Not exactly a difficult car to control really is it? Nice light clutch, power steering, electric everything. Now if you saw your granny in a westfield....

I used to be a trolley boy at Asda and the hottest cars were always parked in the disabled bays! It seemed as though Golf GTIs came with an Orange badge as standard?

Most of the people in those cars appeared to be disabled by nothing more than old age. You would often see a bloke in his 80s spend half an hour slowly dragging himself the 20 metres from the store to his car with the aid of his elderly missus and a stick only for him to climb into a brand new VR6?!

When doing day shifts most of the customers were pensioners and they all seemed to have sporty cars! I personally think that car salesmen see them coming and get them to part with their savings by selling them the "top of the range model".

As for their ability to control cars. Ive saw one of them collapse in the store and refuse an ambulance. They barely knew where they were or who they were and yet insisted on driving off. We even had to guide them out of the space because their arthritis meant that they couldnt turn their head! They could only look straight ahead?!?

Its not so much the car - more their inability to turn their heads either......

a) Quickly or

b) At all !!!

I swear its the wrong way around.... when youre young you can drive properly but cant afford the decent cars....... when youre old etc etc

My Grandads car must have the cleanest 3rd and 4th gears - I swear to god he travels at full revs in 1st and 2nd - everywhere he goes.... bless im

The insurance must be alot cheaper ...! I remember many years ago battling with an old hag in beat up Fiesta, however, my even more beat up Metro was not up to the task. She was really nailing it for a 70 year old, taking the corners like Mansell himself!

Flash I really dont think it is the wrong way round - the amount of young people that get a fast car and kill themselfs is testamant to this.

I have owned nothing but hot hatches and im now 30 - considering the things I did in my XR2 at 17 im lucky to be alive.

When and if im 70 I will have something fast aswell - why not? If you want to sit in doors infront of the TV at 70 in wet pants thats up to you;)

  BMW 320d Sport

Im with 007 and 2 Live here. Im glad I didnt have a quick car when I was a teenager cos Id be dead by now.

Im 31 and still driving my hot hatch. Ive thought about getting a sensible estate now, but cant bring myself to do it. In fact if anything the older I get the more impractical my car gets. Current spec is two bucket seats, four point harnesses and a roll cage LOL

  Black 182 + Recaros

Im 32 (very young I know), but up until a few months ago I started driving really sensibly. God how boring. Then I uprated my 172 and started driving like an idiot. Scared myself to death for a few weeks. Have calmed down a bit now, but I felt like I was 18 again. I started to think it was a bad idea doing the uprating.

Age really does make you more sensible.

I think that I will get old discracefully.

I will be the person who will supercharge their Petrol OAP Buggy.

Champagne?

im 36 , the only thing that will stop me driving my valver is when i cant climb over the door bar and squeeze my ass in the cobra.........

Loads of oldies near me with much sportier cars than Clios!!

Often these are the folk with more spare cash to spend on cars.

Lets see who can photograph the oldest person with the sportiest car.

I race my Cup and at one of the events I met 78 years old man who was competing in a classic car. HE asked me how does the Clio 172 handle as he wanted to buy one to RACE next season. He had two replaced knee caps and a replaced hip but seemed fit for his age... He said he got the bug when he helped his grandson compete last year. He used to compete when he was in his 20s and all of sudden realised that he really missed it. So he is back

Can you believe it?????

You have to admire the guy, and he was not slow either

My Dad is 68 and drives a brand new Porsche 911. Its paid for as well. Hes just spent £400 on a speed camera detector. He loves these gadgets.

His next car may be an Aston Martin DB9. Hes going to look at one today.
