Optimum No Rinse review

  120d M Sport
I had a sample of this from ages back, given to me by Russ off here so thought I'd give it a whirl today!

The supposed method of use, which I followed today is:

-Spray car with ONR solution in spray bottle to loosen up dirt
-Wash one/two panels (2bm, one with strong ONR mix, one with plain water, Sonus Sheepskin mitt)
-Dry immediately after! (I used the i4d uber towel and another Optimum product, Instant detailer to assist with drying)

As it says, NO RINSING REQUIRED

I was a bit sceptical at how it would work without swirling etc but it really did seem to encapsulate the dirt; my drying towel stayed clean the whole way through.

The finish left was EXCELLENT, as good as when I've washed it with my favourite duragloss 901.

On the downside, it is a bit fussy as you have to remember to wash/dry panels in a certain order to avoid wetting them and having to repeat the drying process. Also, it seems very strong so I'm not sure how safe it is on a waxed finish- not really a problem as I like to wax after!

I'll certainly be using it in future when away at Uni where I dont have access to a hosepipe and would reccomend it for use at shows etc.

Will upload several pics I took later.

Anyone else tried this?

Glad you liked it Alex - it's great when used properly as you have there.

My only issue is that the car never feels truly clean (arches etc), but it does a grand job of quick spruce ups etc

ok with the hose pipe here for us in the north west, thought id bump this thread to see if anyone else has used it

JD, thoughts?

thinking of trying it, but just cant get my head around it not scratching the paint!

I personally don't like anything that allows for a "quick wash" - this term to me instantly means marring. I would therefore rather not wash for a few weeks. To be fair, my car is not moving now anyway as I can walk to work in minutes and my other half has moved to London, so I train it down at the weekend, rather than driving to Birmingham!

Just something to point out on this - people without hosepipes will surely still be using the old bucket of water to rinse method . . . ?

You need to use it to appreciate how sophisticated this product is. It has a MASSIVE user base in the US and people have used it for up to 12 months without inflicting any swirls. I was apprehensive myself, and I'd not use it on a 'filthy' car, but for a mid week wash it's superb.

Give it a try JD. It's not like that washless crap you see on shopping channels. Dr G at Optimum makes some great products. Have you seen their new Hyper Spray Polish...?

I never noticed any swirling after using it on my Clio but then it was silver I guess!

It worked perfectly with my Uber drying towel and Optimum detailer spray, though I used it with a mitt which was a bad idea, you can see the product really picks up the dirt which then clings to the mitt.

Ideally you want to be using this with a grouting sponge (yes, I did say sponge), it's safer than a normal car wash sponge and will allow stay cleaner when using ONR than a mitt would.

I'd say it's best use is when the sun is out and you want to wash your car without worrying about rushing around to avoid it drying and leaving water marks. With ONR you wash and dry panel by panel.

This is the key thing that worries me, especially with a red car. Even TBM, prefoam, hose sheeting water and pat dry with QD I still get the odd mark and only detailed the car around three months ago.

Yeah, swirls are pretty much unavoidable if you wash your car regularly, no matter how cautious you are. It's an excuse to get back out there for another session, which I imagine many detailers love!
