other clio owners reactions to a v6

  An orange one
I find it strange when Im out in my vee...that while driving along...you get nods of respect from porsche drivers / RS4 drivers etc and the usual CTR / ST hatch brigade always look over and smile etc...

but...to the vast majority of young lads in clio's of all engine sizes...you might as well not be there!! they go past..having a sly look and then look away..its so wierd! Im not out looking for attention etc...but..if I see a nice car..I wave or nod at the driver and think..mmm...thats tidy!

has anyone else noticed this..?? regardless of car make?

It's true, if i see some chav in his shitted up clio, you can see them looking at my 172 but if you make eye contact they look away it's odd.

when in leeds at the weekend a red 172 came alongside at the lights..i was looking over (might have been a CS member) and his girlfriend was looking...so i thought..i'll smile the 172 looked great in that colour...they both looked the other way and drove off!! :S

I usually give other clio owners a nod (if they look like cs'ers ie not old women) never had one back tho! It comes from my days of MX5 ownership where virtually everyone waved / flash lights etc.

So true, any lad the same age as me in a lesser clio seems to just give a quick look and then look away as soon as they notice i've seen them looking

Saying that, i've seen 2 RS owners at petrol stations and they never look, as you'd expect anyone who's bought a RS to look, cos who else would spend so much on a "clio" without knowing what it is, maybe i'm just really ugly.

  Carrera 4S. Clio 172. M5
The problem is there are so many "Fake" ones about when you see a "Real" one you are so shocked its impossible to move a hand to wave. :)

my boss has got a v6 and i ask him everyday if he wants to swap it for my 172!
If i see you go past mate i will give you a toot!

Never seen a fake v6 on the road at all, only the ones on fleabay.

I just wish I could find a decent mk1 vee for sale :dapprove: (please no one tell me about Newms's car -I know about it)

in my 182...

when you get other clio drivers behind you, they deliberately TAILGATE...SPEED UP.....and generally drive like w*****s...

as if out to prove something to themselves...

I think the opposite could be said aswell Kiev.

Personally i fin around here most people that seem to drive the performance cars are posers that when they see you looking think they have to prove how fast their car really is by driving like an idiot.
If a car is really really nice like a Zondo or F40 or along those lines then yeah I will be drooling. If I see a V6 I will have a look from the back or if it's parked up a look around but if their is a driver in it....well it's rude to stare!

  BMW M3
No one waves or nods at me in my 182. Not even other drivers. I don't think they can be enthusiasts...

  Astra VXR 17/05/07
I love my 182 to bits but can't ever imagine why people would wave ??? They did the first few months i had it but at that time there were not that many about, but now.... its just another 182 so i'd find it strange being waved at !

Yep same here.
Or they just completely ignore me!

My dad gets that all the time in his 172, he gets really annoyed. It's not just 'lesser' clio models who do it, but crappy vectras & poverty spec bm's

I try not to obviously look directly at other drivers because of the way my car looks I dont want it to appear like im looking at them to see if their looking at me or the car.

I always if i see a 172/182/v6 give them the quick thumbs up and most just look at me gone out.

If someone flashes me and I dont even know them then i'll still smile back just to acknowldge the fact that they like my car and have shown me that they do. (that or that theirs something wrong with it. lol)

I'd wave... but if its a V6 and its round here, its probably Subway and he might get the wrong idea and I'd get bum loved :(

  Saxo VTS
In my old Valver used to get looks from Scooby owners, other Clio owners of a young age and chavs.

Never got waved or anything. Sometimes actualy turned a few heads lol.

  Titanium 255 V6
Well I was on the A3 on Saturday and as I approached a slip road I noticed a blue 182 quite a distance behind flashing me (i was a bit hungoover so he could have been there for a while) so I put my hazards on to say hi! as he turned off down the sliproad

  M2 Competition
I find clio's tend to have a pretty chavvy/ young image now.

Very few people wave at you etc, as you'd find among owners of other sports cars.

  Clio 1.2 16v
Saw one V6 the other day. the driver knew i was admiring it when i failed to set off at the lights and he gave me a little beep and laughed as he burnt off into the distance

yep 100% i get this. Its as if to say "i want to see what you can do" Its not only clio owners though, its most vts/r ive come across. Sad.

The only people who have commented on the sport are ones who have been in an accident when owning one! No lie. When filling up fuel ive had 2 people say how their rs almost killed em.

  Mk1 MX-5 next summer
i never nod to 172 drivers etc cos i am in a 1.2 n i think they would jus give me a dirty look lo.

maybe its cos theres shot loads of clios about there not like scoobies old minis etc.

I always look for CS stickers though

TBH I only do the nod/flash thing to RSs otherwise I'd end up doing it all the time and everyone would think I was mad as statistically I'm more likely to flash someone who is on here in an RS than not, not because I think any less of someone in a non-RS. However, I do tend to have a li'l look at lights etc just to see if I get a reaction. If you nodded at me I'm give you a nod back. Also, if I saw a 1.2 with a CS sticker I'd also make sure to make my presence known to be polite.

I'm sure most of us have owned 1.2s or similar when we started driving so I don't think anyone who has would look down on someone just because of that!

If you don't get a nod back it's probably 'cause they don't come on here, not 'cause they're a snob.

lol yeah spose so probs just think i am some strange kid lol.
there 2 cups in my town both without stickers.
but there is a 172 ph1 and V6 with stickers but i have done a few "spotted" threads n they havnt responded so i assume they brought the cars with them on

  1.8 8v RSi
i've had valvers, 172/182s pull slowly up behind and follow me for about 5 mins at 70 then put there foot down and nearly take my car out as they over take (on motorways)

another good one is 1.2 mk1s full of chavs with neons on just bombing it past me at 90 then see then pull up in front of me and slow down so i have to over take em so they get another look at my car and as i pass they put there foot down n stair at me....urgh so annoying

works both ways too ....hehe saw a lovely v6 coming the other way ..... i flashed my lights and he just stared . some ppl do and some dooby dont

  LY V6 with Recaros
Most rs clios I see don't pay any attention to my car, so I guess they just don't come on here. But I do see the odd few that will flash/beep or give a nod.

  Tangoed Works
I have seen a few V6's and given them a flash or wave. Most 182 owners I've seen have been oldy 30-40 year olds and when they see a young for their age looking 24 year old like me they seem to ignore any type of communication. No acknowledgement of thumbs up etc.

Weird, as its just love for the car really.
