PC to HDTV

I've got countless movies on my pc and want to watch them on a bigger screen (My Tele!). There both right next to each other. What cables would i need to get started?
I've got the usual Slimline Dell Monitor everyone else seams to have and a Sony LCD HDTV with countless number of sockets for cables!

Proabably best to use a VGA cable from ya pc to the TV .....Providing the tv has VGA in

you could aslo buy a DVI - HDMI cable ...but the graphics card + Tv would need to have the relevent connections.(DVI on the graphics card /HDMI on the tv)

I just bought one of these DVI - HDMI cables but the pictures not as sharp i dont think......I use VGA and the pictures perfect on my sammy TV.

same, i use VGA on the back of my samsung tv but got an adaptor to run it from the DVI on my PC and run a dual screen setup, its great, just drag my movie over onto my tv and watch it in beautiful 32 inches :)

VGA is easiest, you will need connections for the sound aswell though.

You can also now buy graphics cards with HDMI outs, which is always an option if your stuck.

My samsung R88 has a VGA input along with a 3.5mm jack for audio input from the computer. Decent enough for just hooking up the laptop.

I use my laptop with my 40" lcd and it looks amazing...when I look back at the laptop it is as if my eyes are fooked its that blurry!

I have a weird problem tho...if I try to stream a div x vid it is on my laptop screen but nothing is on my TV? The rest of the surrounding site is on the tv screen but the actually vid is blank..any ideas?

but most lcd's are held back to displaying silly low resolutions over vga

mines just set to display the actual pixels of the TV, 1366 x 768, is that the best way? if i set it to 720 wont it have to stretch things still?

if you change the set up of your screens perhaps so that the TV is number 1, it should work. maybe a limitation of your graphics card?

I'll give it a go thanks m8

Its weird tho because I can play HD Vids from my laptop and they appear on my TV..just seems to be ones off Stage6 which are Divx that don't appear on the TV
