Get loads & loads of decent high res pics before travelling any major distance - some people are just knobs when it comes to their cars.

How idiots can call things 'mint' when they blatently aren't is beyond me:mad:

I have been to see so many mint or concours condition cars that have been total sheds, I give up now. This was one of the major factors to why I purchased the 182 new - as I am a fussy git anyway, without trawling around looking at supposedly excellent cars.

Worst is when the lie to all the questions you ask them, just trying to get you there. I ask so many questions now before leaving the house.

I'm pretty fussy also, always ask for as many as possible high definition pics before going to look at it.

Rich, i'll have yours off you if you ever sell it! :D Wouldn't need to worry about examining the body work at all lol

I'm really fussy too, it has to be immaculate, which is why I bought my 182 from new too.

  Megane Mk4
I agree with Rich and Deb, I bought mine new as some people don't know their arse from their elbow. But to add to the "second hand cars script".
I went looking at a Mk1 Clio 1.8 RSi in blue about 4/5 years ago. The guy that owned it assured me it was in immaculate condition inside and out and that he was the only owner from new, travelled to Durham in my mk1 Phs3 1.2 Clio to go look.

Got there and the list of things wrong beggers belief :-

Rust round rear wheel arches (non standard wheels rubbing)
All four Wheels kerbed.
Bald front tyres - So possible wheel spin burnout, not good for engine/gearbox or anything else really.
Interior was a mess, looked like he lived in it let alone just drove it.
Rips in rear bench seat down the middle, passenger seat was badly worn.
Steering wheel was bent and badly worn.
It had a side repeater missing and had a crack in the rear driver side lamp unit.

Thats all I could see with my eyes, I didn't see under the bonnet or in the boot, I'd got to the stage where I just wanted to charge him for wasting my time, fuel and effort to go see it. Ended up buying a 1999 W reg Clio 1.6 RSi from Bradford Sunwin Renault instead.

Not all cars are lemons though, there are some good second hand ones, just seem to be harder to find.

If anyone is interested in my 02 172 then let me know. I'm trading it in next Saturday for £5k, will sell for the same price if someone has the cash available now.

When i sold my corsa 1.6 16V sport for £2500 to a mate. People said thats way over priced. There was a few faults which i told him about. I saw one a few months later with more miles on the clock and every alloy and every panel scratched for the same money.

  Clio 182 + Recaros
I brought new for the same reason. Lets face facts, high performance cars - particularly hot hatches are either lovingly looked after or completely abused.

I was in the market for a second hand RS1800 Fiesta about ten years ago and a couple of the so called 'Minters' I looked at would have more accurately described as 'munters'

Ones mans rubbish is another mans treasure (sp).. or so they say

so true! My mint is mint, not got a couple of scratches or anything, where as my dads mint is it starts/drives, looks ok from 20ft away if you squint!

Lol, that sounds just like my parents! My dad is convinced that his R reg mondeo is in good condition, even with the bumpers cracked and hanging off, scuffs, scratches and dents all over, never been washed...but because he's never had any problems with it he thinks it's in good nick! Bless..

I bought my 172 from a garage nearby (not Renault) and its been perfect (so far).

Was the first car I went to see first (and bought it, didn't need to go look at any others), no signs of ragging, and near enough serviced at the correct intervals.

Yeah, I certainly will be advertising mine as mint, When I bought my 172 I drove 100 miles to go and see it 2 times before I actually gave him any cash, I sold it to a mate for pretty much what I paid for it, But I had done 20k in it. Hopefully I can do this with my 182, (I doubt that very much tho)

that weird, my dad has an M reg Mondeo, and thinks the same, he thinks nothing off tapping something with the bumpers, its his own parking sensor! all i get is, its done 140k miles and runs like clockwork, all i can say is thank god he never made clocks!! and he seems to forget that i fix it for nothing all the time, if he was taking it to where i work at £52 an hour i think he would change his mind and buy a new car, tight git!!!.....oh yeah and its in good nick because it gets a £3 tiger wash at esso once a month!:quiet:
