Ph1 172.. Worth it ??

  BMW M4; S1000 RR
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...T&model=CLIO&min_pr=&max_pr=4000&max_mileage=

For those not tempted by the link.

£2,500
CAT C (professionally repaired by Renault)
Silver
61000 miles
6 Owners
"A Perfect Example"
"£300 induction kit and an oval exhaust"

With the above I'd say it'd be pretty much impossible to move on for near normal money so what's the crack.

AT price guide says £3.2k for a good condition one (that doesn't factor in 6 owners and CAT C though or the current state of the market).

Thanks to the stigma of cat-c, I don't think I would want to pay more than £1,800 for that personally.

this has been up for sale for about 5 months...i was gonna look at this one myself back in march but decided against it cos of the price, cat d and owners....

I was thinking similar, but couldn't put a figure as I've kept out of the valuation threads for as long as I can remember.

However I want to buy something now. I can't imagine being able to sell it on so will assume he's not having much interest.

Im selling mine, its got 49,500 on the clock with one previous owner, religiously serviced etc. Id let it go for £3650

  V6 255, 172's, JCW,
Forget it.. No-way worth the money that's being asked for it. If it was a Cat D.. hmmm.. if it was in really tip-top condition with a documented repair job, with pre accident pics it may be worth that sort of figure.
I'd stear clear if i were you fella.

I bought mine, 5 prev owners, 50k miles, needs bonnet and front wing spraying (currently unpainted) for 2.5k. Mechanically straight. All belts done, but with incomplete service history.

i would not get it ad save up and i'd splash out abit more mate... and warren get it sprayed mate :D
Getting quite fond of the ghetto look. People look at it and think it's a turd, without realising it's on ast's and can run rings around them. 15wheels go on tomorrow, should be even more fun.

For the one above, if belts have been done, and if it's mint I'd offer him 2k, walk if he says no.

Thing is, if it's engine & gearbox are alright then it'll be perfect. The car would probably die a fiery death on the nurburgring rather than being sold again anyway (if I were to get a deal). obviously not going to pay more for the sake of things though..

I paid £2,700 for a one-owner ph1 'minter' with FSH (albeit 'high' miles - 91k) from a Renault main dealer(!) back in December.

They seem to have dropped like stones this year...

IMO, the car is overpriced - should defo start with a '1'!!

Great choice though for a Ring-thrasher! :D

Err.. I think not fella.

'Lots' cars have had a "bump".

'Some' are cat D, which is beyond "economical" repair.

'A few' are cat C, which is not only beyond economical repair, but also means the car has suffered substantial damage.

Well thats the jist of it anyway iirc.

Sure, if a car has been repaired correctly and with care, as many have, there should be very little to worry about. However there are equally as many cars out there that have had less care attention spent on re-building them after serious damage. Its these vehicles that people need to be warry of.

I was looking at this car a month ago, i email the guy a few times and never had a reply, the listing before didn't state it was a cat C so in my opinion i would stear well clear mate, hold ouft for a better 1. i paid 3200 for w reg 172 ph1 with full renault service history with 56k on the clock.

So there are much better bargin out there mate, just take ure time!

Cars are like anything, you get what you pay for.

ph1s are easy to find - unless it has extras ie coilovers things like that, but a hpi clear one for the same kinda money...id say £1900 is all that one is worth
