Ph1 Radiator

I have zero luck with cars. Not even had the fucker a week yet.

Parked up at my mates last night. When I went to leave there's a fairly big wet patch underneath. Moved it back a bit and left it half hour, no more.

Topped the coolant back up and then it starts dripping out at a fairly steady rate. Looks like it's coming from the rad but can't be 100% certain as it's nigh on impossible to see.

Considering giving this a bash..

I know it's not the best stuff ever but it gets fairly good reviews on there and if it saves me buying a new rad then even better.

But if a new rad is the only solution. Where/how much? :(

Wouldnt put rad weld in any 'decent' car i owned unless i was selling. Put some in my old Proton s**tter and worked fine. Its good stuff but a new rad is £75 is plus fitting

Yeah, I don't want to bodge it but then again didn't want to have to spend out when I could fix it for 10% of the price.

That site says £117.15 with VAT :( Am I looking at the wrong one?

Oh poo :( Not to piss on your parade but are you sure it's not coming from the water pump seal? It happened to mine and it's just happened to my mates ph1 as well.. :/

Hope you get it sorted

I got my step-dad to have a look last night and he thinks it's the rad too.

None of the hoses appear to be wet/leaking.

I've ordered it now, paid the extra for delivery and they've already emailed to say it's dispatched. Hopefully will come tomorrow.

From what Rob says, I'm guessing the water pump is expensive?

Just check around the pump seal mate. Not sure if you can see it clearly on the ph1 as I've had my air con out for awhile so it's quite easy to spot in mine. (tell tale sign will be if it squeals after it's been standing for awhile, as it would leak on to the aux belt)

35 quid for a water pump + aux belt and tensioners . does sound more like a poopy rad though

Boy am glad I didn't buy that one, Mr LOLs !

Hopefully it'll just be a rad, quick job hopefully and it'll be trouble free for at least a week.

Someone remind me why I'm probably going to own one of these again soon ? :dead:

Between my job, gf, gym few times a week, social life, browsing the gawd damn emo thread, and a fair chance I'm going to spend some of the next 6 months abroad with work .. I don't need or want an unreliable car to keep me busy :rasp:

But yes. They're like heroin but more expensive .. damn you, RenaultSport !

Aluco had a problem with his, turned out to be a dodgy bung I think.

Water pumps an arse of a job, mine went about a year ago exactly.

Hmmms. It's booked in for Weds. I'm 94.7% sure it's the rad.

If it's not, well then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Mine did this, it turned out to be a rusty jubilee clip on my output hose. Awesome news.

...then a week later the waterpump failed.

Radweld fixes everything. Mine was pissing coolant, now it doesn't been about 6 months now!

Pikey fix ftw :)

Look at the bottom hose and check for staining as it comes away from the radiator - at the point where the smaller hose joins it. If you can see staining then it is a leak. May be caused by the fan housing being warped. This can then vibrate on the radiator and wear a groove causing a leak. If it is that then you need to cut away some of the plastic housing to ensure it doesn't wear into your new radiator. It's a right royal pain to remove the radiator on a Ph1 - there are two hidden 13mm bolts to take out on the cross member (and if you do this, don't unscrew the bonnect catch mech!).

can't believe you even considered rad-weld.

I suggest a cleaning sesh on sunday. can't have your paintwork being better than mine for too long.
