picture request : ph2 clio on banded steelies

Car  saxo vtr
basically looking to sell up my current car for something cheaper to insure/run

got it in my head i was a 1.4 16v ph2 clio in the dark grey colour , then just going to drop it on black banded steels after seeing the lad who was on the cover of octobers fast car with his blue clio on steels

any other examples of this for inspiration/ideas?

please no spam i'm genuinely after feedback

the 1.4 and 1.6 16v are similar in running costs but the 1.6 has 10bhp more and a bit more torque so if you can id go for that, however they are both terrible on fuel, ours struggles to do 38mpg with a good mix of driving.

personally id be looking for a dci 80 with £20 a year road tax and 60mpg

38mpg = terrible?! Hardly ever saw that in my 1.2!

As said above, DCi's seem to be a good all round on running. If you can get over them sounding like a tractor and spitting out big clouds of black smoke lol.

Check out frazjams aswell, had a 1.2 on schmidts, and Mickb's, White DCi van on Porsche wheels (can't remember the name). I'd link but on iPhone ATM!

+1 my 1.2 was 32mpg all the time.

My 1.6 GT which is nay on the same engine, averages about 35,to 38 with careful driving, cruising is anywhere from 40 - 50 mpg.

Obviously doing something wrong then, i can easy get 42mpg out of mine at night with no one around i can get 51mpg beleive it or not but thats doing 30 every where lol.

Oh to the lads question toms is the only one thats been on here with banded steelies, you might want to try one of the generic "e**o" websites.

something around 40mpg sounds good to me not really looking for a dci as in my price range they all seem to be quite high mileage

as long as the trip computer is not lying i'm getting over 40mpg on the 172 ph1. I never rush to work though :D

How the fock do you manage that?

I'm only averaging 34.5mpg in mine :(

EDIT - Just looked and its actually 43.5mpg not 34.5mpg LOL

im getting 28.4mpg out of my 1.2 but then again cant imagine the way i drive helps that, always had a theory though, the bigger engined the car(more power) the less you have to "rag" it to make it move therefore getting better mpg

i thought that when i got a 1.6 astra, i was wrong.. 30mpg at best, i got my 1.2 16v as i thought it would be a cheap runner but i see about 32-38 ish. my trip computer just lie's to me lol

Anyone who gets below 40 mpg in 1.2 16v clio either services every 50,000 miles or drives it like a helmet tbh i used to get anywere between 40-47mpg in my 1.2 over the 2 years i had it most of the time it sat around the 45mpg mark.

Ph1 172 does 39-40mpg on a average full tank but is s**t if taking over 5k or used in the town

If you can afford the DCI its the best option yet if you cant afford one get a 1.2 version the 1.4 and 1.6 are pointless imo as there both slow both bad on fuel and cost more to insure than the 1.2 or dci versions.

If you want a low slow car on wheels why not get a lupo polo?
