PiperX panel filter - 172

ITG filter has arrived and has been fitted. It seems much better quality than the Pipercross. The top of the filter has a metal mesh not plastic and it comes in a sealed bag, pre oiled unlike the Pipercross.

Its no where near as deep either, and is roughly a third the depth of the OE one. Fits snug as a bug in a rug. ;)

The Pipercross filter came in a box with a can of oil and that was it. This one has care unstructions with it, a sticker! and a sticker for the airbox to tell the garage not to change it at service time.

I suppose only time will tell if its going to fall to bits or not. Apparently it should last 3 times as long as the OE filter, with the occasional check.

I went for a quick blast around the block, but to be honest I cant tell any difference. When I swapped the OE filter for the pipercross I noticed an increase in boomines (is that a word?) at mid to high revs. Since then Ive had a Magnex Cat back system put on so thats not noticable!!

Im going to try and leave earlier for work tomorrow, see if I can get on the roads before the traffic builds up and see how it goes.

Whats the verdict ?

Better throttle response ?

Induction Noise slightly more "boomy" ?

Hard to tell. I gave it a good thashing on the way to work and it pulled as hard as it ever has done. Certainly felt a little better than with the OE filter in. The roads are greasy so it was hard to tell from a standing start, but at high revs it feels a little more eagar to go. I found that when I put the PiperX in, so it must be taking some deep breaths at high revs.

As for noise I cant tell now I have the Magnex cat back system on. I even turned off the climate and stereo for a while.

I bought an ITG panel filter (from Merlin Motorsport) along with a Group N ECU just after I took delivery of my Cup at the end of November. I havent fitted the ECU yet but (want to get it nicely loosened up first) but I was bored at work yesterday so went out and fitted the filter.

Quality wise I couldnt be more impressed...it seems to be a really well put together bit of kit...and the fit was superb. Performance wise, Id agree with Lee M above...with this weather, and not being able to really cane it, its hard to tell what, if any difference its made. Id suggest that its a little keener at high revs, but below 4k I think its softened up the throttle response...it just doesnt seem as sharp as it was before.

Probably me just thinking its changed though...
