Poor fuel economy

I was travelling back home on the A12 friday night and was only getting 25mpg! Admittedly though i was travelling at 110mph @5000rpm-ish. Would this explain it or should i be getting better? As i think i should be out of a 1.2!!

Unless you were driving into a 50mph head wind I would have thought you should be getting in the region of 32-35mpg.

Yeah, normally at more sedate speeds im getting well over 50mpg so i was a bit miffed. I feel another trip back to Renault is on the cards..

The strange thing was though that when i got back into the sort of urban areas it picked up again to almost 30mpg, youd think if there was a prob id have poo mpg all the time?

Dont suppose you know how many rpm you were doing Mike?

RobFenn i dont think you will be getting any better. The 1.2 16v coutesy car I had only did 20 to the gallon the 300 miles that i did in it. Was glad in some ways to get my car back to save me some money.

well last night i was doing 50mpg with aircon on for about 15 miles at 50mph

When i book my car in ill ask if its a regular problem, for 1.6s also. Officially the combined MPG should be 48mpg for the 1.2 16v.

my mpg is sh*t, get about 25mpg out of mine, but do have to rag it to ever get any speed out of it, so prob to be expected. have had it down as low as around 20mpg!!!

No way! Its defo not that much, more like 120mph at that rpm (not that ive ever go there)

dunno what your bitching about. 25mpg in a not very aerodynamic car and an engine thats working hard to get that fast is quite good.

I get about 30mpg above the ton in the 19 although sit at 55 I get 60mpg (highest I managed was something daft like 7-mpg, managed to do over 100 miles on a fiver)

As for the valvers in my old 19 16V I used to get 4mpg at 145 mph, I think the highest I managed without going down a big hill on over run was about 30mpg.

The Saab has dropped to 1mpg though averages about 14 mpg round town about 35 on a run at 50 which is way to slow.
