Post Nurburgring Car Service

  Clio 197

Hi,

Went to: http://www.carltongarage.fsnet.co.uk/http://www.carltongarage.fsnet.co.uk/ , owned by ClarkieV6.

My 182 had done 6500 miles, and the oil was very sad and runny - thank god I had it changed (along with the filter).

The brake fluid had boiled on the ring, and as a result, a huge amount of air developed in the system (making it very spongy), and it was filled with a better grade fluid.

All done in one hour; money well spent, and extremely reasonalby priced!

One very happy customer.

Oms.

Ill be doing my brakes this afternoon. Did you replace the whole lot or just top up with the new stuff? Also, did you bleed out the sh*t stuff if you didnt drain the system?

One last question, whats the pooh count today?

Pooh: Twice so far... three in a few minutes.

As for the brakes: The whole system was bled and fluid replaced with decent stuff.

Feels much much better now!

Mines in for its 90,000 km service in the next few weeks, it had done 28,000 ks and was on 88,000 at the ring, I was positive I was gonna break it, LOL

how many miles is that???

Its deffo worth changing the oil after the ring trip.

My oil wasnt good in good condition at all, and yet it only would have needed its first service @ 12k (another 5500 miles) according to the book. Scary.

My uncle did me an oil change in my Cup after the first year and he reckon Renault had used the wrong oil in the engine!

I had done any trackdays nor had I done mega mile. The oil that came out was about as thick as espresso coffee.

Lol!

Im not sure what they use in the factory - some manufacturers will use a certan oil suitable for breaking the car in...?

Either that, or their recommended "elf" oil breaks down quicker than bananas in yeast.

After every trackday you need to bleed at least the fluid that was in the calipers as that is where it will boil. That causes all the spongyness and long pedal issues.

Regards to oil mine did not use a drop for the whole trip and its still golden yellow. Was changes 4k before the trip.

Oh i do need some new discs as they are a very nasty colour and close to maximum wear. Have to say the pads (DS2500) show no signs of wear but have gone brown around the contact area with the disc....

I might try some cooling ducts for the next track day just so to try and keep at the brake temps down...

The only common thing between Adam and I is that it was the first oil change: Perhaps its the factory oil then...

EVO, Do you think the 182 stock rims have a bit to do with my red hot brakes? They dont exactly lend themselves to allowing the brakes to cool do they?

They are actually quite good due to them being quite light in weight. If you want to keep the brakes cool then the trick with my old EVO was to run brake ducting hose from the front grill to the hubs. Worked a treat cost about £20.

Will be looking into this for the next track day.

thanks for the post oms.. pleasure to see you.

evogone with the ducting... i think thats a great idea, but remove it for normal road use, as the car is designed to get the brakes to normal temp as soon as poss.

Totally agree with your comments for the clio. On the EVO they were on 100% as it was a second car and used to get thrashed everytime i took it out. EVO brakes are excellent but over heat the pads (very common) and you get deposits on the discs and brake judder occurs. To cure it you needed new discs circa £200-300 had to replace mine twice in 3 months but it was fine after fitting the ducts. Oh yes the best way to cure it was relieving yourself of £1800 and get some AP 6pots. If i get another one it this will be my first upgrade.
