Power Tool Perverts

Just got myself a milwankee m12 3/8 fuel stubby impact 1st gen to test the water to see if it will be of use.

Noted massive difference in output when using the 6Ah batteries compared to 2ah. I guess thats normal from what i read?

Yeah that's right mate.

Surprisingly powerful things, especially with proper impact sockets on.

Does seem decent from initial test. I do like the bolt tightening setting that just nips up.

Ive geared up with shallow and deep impact 3/8 sockets. I guess it might struggle if using extensions or adaptors.

Yeah do lose a bit with extensions but depends what you're using it for really.

It'll still have a couple hundred Nm even with them.

You still have your big DeWalt for heavy jobs don't you?

Yep got the DeWalt for the big stuff, im going to upgrade it to a m18 fuel one soon so full team red.

I do like the compact size of the 3/8 stubby, will make life easier when in wheel arches etc.

I'm looking for a digital torque wrench with usb output for live/continuous data recording on pc and have only found one company that do the sort of thing Im after. Anyone know of something or have any ideas? @Flob

I don't know of any mate, but I know the are very common in factory setups where bolt torque has to be recorded for QA shizzle.

Not quite live via USB, but I'm sure the digital Milwaukee wrenches can save torque values which you can then save/export.

Maybe worth a look.

I received a good offer from the seller so bought that one for £200. I need it to be continuous because its for measuring steering rack pinion torque.

Milwaukee is great for recording torque figures, but it is an absolute faff to actually get them accross to the computer to export the figures

Connect phone to it, pull report items to phone, they then upload to milwaukee web portal, wait to appear in the portal.
Select event's you want, export report.

it's a long winded process if you're doing it reapeatedly

I need a uk ‘3.5mm ac/dc power supply’, don’t know what they are technically called, ideally exact spec as not sure how important it is. Seller pictures showed it turned on but with a adaptor plug it wouldn’t turn on.. 🤔

Just google for a 9v dc 200Ma output power adapter with whatever jack you need, loads on eBay, Amazon etc.

As already said tho you’ve potentially fried whatever your plugging this in to.
I wouldn't say hes fried what hes plugging into unless the adaptor has royaly fucked up inside when hooked to 240v, i was meaning the adaptor would be fried

Yeah agreed, it’s just weird it’s not auto ranging so assumed whatever it is, is quite old.

My orbi routers didn't either.
Shat it when I thought i blew my expensive router before I even turned it on.

What do the cells look like? Could potentially use an external charger.

The power brick is likely a transformer with some kind of protection on its output - if it had no protection the output would have gone to 18V and potentially hurt whatever you plugged into it (if you had anything plugged in at all).

Cut the plug off - use the connector from your power brick.

Heads up though that the cells are likely shagged so going with new cells and en external charger is possibly the best option anyway.

Good news,

Thats a charge control IC. So you can plug any 9v power adapter into it. Doesn't have to be 200mA output. Some really shitty stuff charges NiMH cells very slowly and relies on the current limit of the power supply rather than anything intelligent.

Bad news - its been designed by a dog shagging c**t because you have to pull the PCB out to remove the battery and the hex stand offs are super close to the edge of the box so a normal nut driver probably won't go on.

Good news - its a standard looking NiMH battery which will be easy to buy.

No no I'm a changed man and waited for your expertise first. Might have a power supply somewhere if not will order one and then go from there.

Might be of value, I plugged in the usb to pc and it registered something was connected, wont turn on though, didn't before I tried to charge it.

USB would have enumerated, it has another chip with a FTDI label on it that deals with USB and will do that without the processor running. That charge IC says it will accept upto 20v input but I would stick with the 9V as I haven't read the datasheet deeply and I don't want your new toy to catch fire because I've given shite advice.

Thanks for the advice Rob! I wont do anything stupid (again) with this cause they are either non existent or £££

Posting this incase it helps someone as I think I've knackered one of my m18 batteries!

I used it in an adapter for a ryobi tool and left it in it stupidly! In all fairness I completely forgot I did and wondered where my 6th m18 battery was and found it in the garden box in the ryobi tool.

I think the adapter connected to the ryobi tool has killed the battery sadly, maybe because the tool isn't designed for it so it's allowed the battery to fully drain?

The battery won't charge when thrown on the charger, it just flashes red and green and when pressing the battery indicator on the battery itself, nothing lights up at all.

Not bad going to say I've had milwaukee stuff for 9 years and this is my only problem, which, in turn is due to me being a berk.

It's likely below the under volt threshold Dan. If you charge it with a power supply for a little while then put it back in the Milwaukee charger it should charge.

Dont hook it up and forget, it will explode. Do you have a bench power supply by any chance?
