Project 172 : Cheap Track Toy

Hi lads, just bought my first 172 after wanting one since doing trackdays in my 106 last year and having rings run round me by these awesome value for money pocket rockets.

Ended up selling the 106 and getting this red 2002 172 for £920. 120k on the clock but cambelt and dephaser etc have been done and its been serviced regular.

Overall it drives very well, very strong engine. However the car does have a slight knock when i change gear (sounds like engine/gearbox mountin, a oil leak and a slight squeak which sound like a belt/pulley.

This is going to be used purely for the track although it does have tax and mot.

My plans are...

fix issues and oil leak.
Strip interior out.
coilovers (way too much body roll atm)
Decent tyres
Decat
Manifold
Single bucket seat/harness
Omp corsica wheel
Eventually a full cage.

However for its first trackday its going exactly how u see it here (once ive fix the knocking and dropped the tyre pressures.) My first trackday in this is july the 8th at oulton park, cant wait !

Any tips/tricks before i take to the track would be great as im new to the cliosport world

Knocking noise could be the exhaust manifold knocking on the antiroll bar, usually notice it on hard acceleration, most people fix it by putting a powerflex dog bone mount on, which is worth doing as it totally transforms the feel of changing gear

Well i havent had chance to do anything to this yet as weve been mad busy running two civics in this years civic cup whoch has taken up most of our spare time. However i have be busy sourcing parts for this. So fat to fit i have a cobra suzuka seat, omp subframe, ktec solid topmounts, spax rsx125 coilovers, ozf1 wheels (need painting first), sparco harness, sabelt renaultsport wheel and a quick release. Next ill be ordering poweflez dogbone, half cage, induction and a exhaust.....updates to follow when parts are fitted!
