Project Inferno

Some nice changes here, looks really good mate

Thanks, it's coming along nicely. Just very addictive

Great stuff, that looks really smart! Can only imagine how all that has transformed the car overall

Cheers Steve, I don't think it's a placebo affect, it genuinely feels a bit sharper. I need to decide on some track wheels and get some ideas on which colour to choose against the inferno paintwork

So I decided to update the colour of my roof lining. Given the fact the Cup came with the poverty spec interior, the cheap, grey felt looked nasty and was letting things down with some staining also.

It’s a job I wish I’d never bothered starting to be perfectly honest, because the volume of paint required for this job is... a lot. Plus I really should have done it before I installed the cage and seats and it’s just a huge pain to manoeuvre the lining with them fixed into position. All told it’s a lot of effort for a very subtle result.

Anyway, here’s the before and after, I am happy with the way it looks. I’ll post up a pic of it fitted another day as I ran out of light.

Cheers @182_steve.

I searched for fabric paint and ended up buying 12 cans (admittedly they were small 150ml ones) and then another matt black 600ml. So over 2 litres of paint lol!

I was genuinely pi**ed off after spraying one can and it covered the tiniest amount. Back to eBay for another 11

The same thing can be done with faux alcantara and contact spray for a little less but paint is probably easier

I haven’t updated my thread for a few months as I’ve become an Instagram addict, I think this is because it’s easier to post and is quite simple to use. I’m @clio182cup if anyone wants to take a look and follow me...

So since my last update of spraying the roof lining and nearly suffocating to death from the disgusting fumes (never doing that again) I’ve been quite busy with the Clio to get it ready for this years track season..

I’d had it for 1 year and am pleased with what I’ve been able to do over the last 12 months as it’s gone from being unloved to a garage queen.

I really wanted the dash flocked as well as the A-Pillars, two reasons really, one was for ‘cool track car points’ and the other was to get rid of the potential glare on those sunny days ahead. Thanks to Banbury Flocking Services for the top service and speed of turnaround as well as a high quality finish, would 100% recommend these guys -

Other smaller bits I’ve been doing over the winter months include getting a steering wheel cover to keep the OMP one nice and fresh and fitting some RenaultSport sills. In Renaults absolute quest for lightness on the stripped back ‘182 Cup’ , they didn’t fit the door sills, but as the weight gain is negligible I think they look good!

I also bought a small boot net, again this is more form over function as it doesn’t really do much. And as I’m not going for the totally stripped interior or the Clubsport look I just wanted something to break up the uneven interior painted surfaces.

And I’ve also been continuing with production of the replica 182 Cup door badges. I’ve had lots of interest in these, especially internationally through eBay. If anyone would like a pair it’s £15 including postage.

Continuing with my OMP theme for the car I got my Tow Strap fitted and cut a little slot in the lower grill to accommodate -

I cleaned her up and took some snaps as in direct sunlight Inferno really pops and I think is a very underrated colour and doesn’t always show up in photos that well. But in the flesh it’s great (and no special filters on the below 2 pics) -

Last year when I fitted new discs & pads all round and painted the calipers, I noticed that the seals for the front N/S caliper was in bad shape. I also didn’t know when the brakes were last bled, and what type of fluid it had. I also could see that the bleed nipples were in bad shape and one of them had started to round.. a common problem as it appears on here..

So I fitted the new caliper seals for the front and replaced both bleed nipples. Renault don’t make them anymore and I’d originally bought some generic replacements online (silver ones in the pic). They fitted but look stupid as they were quite long and stuck out, so a quick search found some better replacements (brass colour in the pic).

When doing this work I found out that the car had some pretty fresh ATE Typ200 Fluid already (the blue stuff) but I bought some more of it and have re-bled the system anyway so I can satisfy myself of what’s 100% in there -

And the three differing bleed nipples Left to right - Generic (too long) , Closest OEM replacement (best I could track down) Original (rounding and crusty)

Oh I do love to see a nice new shiney set of B14's

Great update mate - will look good.

Great update indeed, those B14's make me envious.... but then I need to slap myself as I've literally just bought brand new Cup shocks for mine lol!

Car is looking very nice indeed matey  PMS shifter soon if you're going down the track route? I mention track route there but I have just had one put in my car and that's just a garage queen also. The shifter is great on the road too!

@182_steve thanks mate, the B14’s do look good as they are, someone commented on Instagram that “it’s almost a shame to put them on the car”. I don’t know if I can protect them in anyway with some wax on the exposed metal parts or just make sure I give the car a good clean down after each track day? It’s not going to be sat in the wet and cold weather and they’ll only get wet/exposed driving to and from a track really.

Funny you should mention the PMS shifter as I’m on the group buy waiting list, so that will hopefully make a noticeable difference..

Good man, you'll hopefully notice a good difference with the shifter - I was just too impatient and pulled out of the group buy and bought one of their existing stock at full price! Only issue I've found so far (not really driven it much yet) was the interior rattle which I think you've seen?

With regards to the coilovers, @Dr Jekyll has some smart coilover covers on his to help protect them. Worth a look!

Not sure how I forgot to mention about my little safety tool that I got as an Xmas Present as well as a Strut Brace..

The 3-in-1 tool is a hammer to break the glass, a flashing beacon and torch, as well as being the most important thing, a seat belt cutter. If the worst happens I rest a bit easier knowing that I’ve got something to assist in getting out. I mounted this on the plastic handbrake surround with some Velcro so it’s in easy reach but is also out of the way of legs and arms whilst driving!

The strut brace hasn’t been fitted yet as I’m planning on getting Chris at Beaniesport to fit the B14’s and brace at the same time, but here it is mocked up in position. I know there’s debate around whether they do anything or make any tangible difference but I like it and giving the car the best chance of handling I can, as it already has a Whiteline ARB fitted.

Nice updates mate, Inferno looks so good when clean.
If it makes you feel any better, I went through EXACTLY the same pain as you when I decided to spray the headlining on my old 106 GTi. It was only a track car project however, so wasn't that fussed on the finish, think I ordered an extra 4 or 5 cans rather than 12 haha.

Cheers mate, Inferno looks great in the sun!

It makes me feel better to know that I’m not the only person silly enough to spray the lining Never again! If I smell the paint again I think I’ll just be sick.. it’s that bad!

Looks great mate. When are you planning on going to see Chris? I'm there fairly often. Would be great to see yours in person too.

That is going to look sooooo smart on those 2118's in that colour, on your colour clio, with coilover lows!!! :fearscream:

Agreed 100% on the rear badges! Did exactly the same thing on mine, but got them all brand new at crazy prices LOL 🙈

Thanks mate, can’t wait to get them fitted. I did consider getting them brand new and it would have been nice but they’re like £45 each...!

After weeks and weeks of waiting my wheels and tyres are finally married. A match made in heaven I’d say!

Just waiting on a new alternator and for my PMS Shifter to arrive now!
