Prospeed or Hayward and Scott 182 exhaust?

I have had 2 exhausts from a company called MIJ performance. Both were fine, nice fit, no rattles etc. and fairly cheap. But at the end of the day they just build a pipe to fit the car.

There is no thought on silencer positioning and size or the bore of the pipe or where the exhaust splits in the case of a 182. Charlie at prospeed does not spend time at a computer modelling the best system for the car does he?

I have seen a few spy shots of AWTs exhaust and if you think a hayward and scott has high build quality wait until you see Bens. You will obviously pay a premium for better workmanship and design.

IMO the custom exhaust do there job but they are by no means the 'best' exhausts you can buy.

I would still like to see some power graph comparisons of the exhausts though.

I wouldnt compare H&S and BTB on a quality and design point of view.

Ever get the feeling you're banging your head against a brick wall Ben?

I'm not saying that the BTB is for everyone because obviously the price limits its appeal, but you do get what you pay for. The BTB is NOT directly comparable to a Prospeed or an H&S, an exhaust should not purely judged on the sound it makes or whether you can see the backboxes, although the BTB does sound good and its not painfully loud either.

I have a blueflame that i bought for several reasons, price and ease (they are based 3 miles from my house) the main ones. Im am very tempted to change for the BTB because i have always liked there stuff and the standard of welding and materials is amazing. If i have the cash in a few months time i will deffinately be upgrading and i wouldn't look at any other system at the moment.

If I had a 182, I'd get the BTB/Shed Motorsport one. It's designed for the car. Not just a few pipes and cans welded together to fit where the OE one went. lol.

I have had no problems at all with my Prospeed. Which is just as well as its 300mile drive away!

You cant see the rear silencer AT ALL on the new design. There are 2 mounts you just cant see it on that picture. It doesnt wobble at all, and with the decat the car was so much more responsive.

Charlie also modified my cat so that it will bolt back into the new system by putting in a wider exit pipe. Its truly awesome.

Hey, I bought a Prospeed for my 172 - I'm not knocking them. I've had a few problems with it, similar to Tim, but it does a job.

My OE exhaust was falling to bits (surprise, surprise) and there was a group buy on here and I got it for £270 fitted. Cheap as chips.

BUT if was serious about performance I'd be looking along a different route than H&S or ProSpeed. Added to the fact the BTB one looks about the best exhaust I've seen yet in terms of quality and aesthetics.

Strangely there isn't a purely performance driven exhaust for the 172 that I can think of apart from maybe YS's offerings. Which were still in development when i got my Prospeed.

I've been considering getting a 172 in the near future (if i can find a good deal on one) so there may well be something for the 172 owners out there soon-ish, unless of course someone wants to loan us a 172 for development with a good deal on an exhaust in return.

Come on you 172 owners, this is a golden opportunity.

I should add though that even with a good deal, it won't be cheap. Its gonna cost us the equivalent of a 3rd world country's national debt in the first place to get it developed.

mine went back yesterday to have the tailpipe adjusted - did not work though so going back again this afternoon and having some proper mods made to it so should be all cool!
