PS3 and US Bluray discs

Right, for all those getting PS3's next month, just found some great info on which US BD will work on the UK PS3 (which is region B, US is region A)

please see this thread for loads of info

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=743121&page=1&pp=30

it seems most warner and paramount are region free, some discs are multiregion so show A, B + C on the back, some show region 1 and still play on B and some show region A even though they play on B players.

good guide is here

http://bluray.lindsite.dk/

and here

http://joshd2012.googlepages.com/

to see the back cover of discs to see what region they say you can also use this site

http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_it...em_id=1273962&tab=5&back=1&anchor=1#topoftabs

the hexagonal shapes are the regions, as it has all three it is A,B +C compatible.

Hope that helps everyone as I for one want to get T2 for starters and even though its a region A it works on B!

oh and i have just finished watching the departed on HD-DVD and its an amazing quality disc, both BD and HD-DVD are supposed to be as good as each other for this title and I can confirm the HD-DVD version is very good quality.

So the new formats are going to be A, B, C etc and the old ones will be 1, 2, 3?

The Departed in an awesome film!

the old regions based on dvd's were 1-6 1 being the US and 2 being europe

HD-DVD has no region encoding.

Blu-ray is going to have ABC i think, A is US and japan, B is europe/Australia and C is india, china and russia.

best explained under the region coding section here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes

although not all studios are using it and some are using them for new titles but leaving old back catalogue discs region free.

apparently the studios that support HD-DVD like the fact it isn't region coded so do the same with their blu-ray and don't region code them.

So at the mo its pretty good for us consumers as long as you do your research!
