Putting in a bigger engine?

  172 and vw passat
Ok been thinkin of upgrading to a 1.4/1.6. but because i had a wee bump it set off passenger seat airbag ect so will be harder to trade in.

So if i got hold of a 1.4/1.6 engine:

1. will it be an easy swap?
2. How would i go about changing my car to the upgraded engine ie, do call the dvla.
3. would this cost more then buying that standered car with that engine already in it on insurance?

any help would be appreciated.

1. no. 1.4 to 1.6 is easy, but 1.2 upwards is a mare,, and for the effort you are going to you arent really gaining much power.. if doing anything do 2.0
2.yep have to change in on logbook then notify insurer
3.yep

and, if you arent doing it yourself labour would be a nightmare

for someone thats not done it before its a good 2 days of labour wether its a 1.2 to 1.4 or 1.2 to 2.0 swap

id love a 2.0l conversion, was thinking that when i pay of my car (2 years away) maybe get a wee bank loan to fund it instead of getting a new car

i seen k-tecs 2.0L conversion. but they want loads+ its at the bottom of england. its just to source a engine that hasent been thrashed and is on low millage at the time would be the problem.

would be a good project tho. and get a wee run about car while its being done hehe

its not really a job you can do on the side of working full time unless you have interest in it really

dropping the engine in anyone could do but wirings a nightmare especially if you want things like steering/abs to work nightmares not the word, and thats assuming you get a loom thats a/complete and b/has the same plugs on things like doors

theres alot to think about and speaking from expeiance its really not worth it, nice once its done but can think of better ways to spend that much money

would look at write offs that have rear/side damage, plus the wee £200 run about FTW lol
