Question about Foundry Welding

  Clio 172
hello all.

I have ph1 172 I bought it nearly 6 months ago and have a problem which maybe make problem in the future.

the problem is 2 pin slots on engine block are break. (you can see them on pic with red marking) First of all I dont want to change engine block because of cost. I talked to a few mechanicer and they told me that maybe we can make weld for broken areas and after then make threads like original.

1. my fist question is do you have any idea about foundry welding? May I drive my car without ant problem after this operation. ( so I havent any problem now, I can drive my car without any problems. I would like to do this in case maybe can be problem in the future)

2. and the second one; Is there anyone who made this foundry welding before? could you please tell me your experiance.

3. do you have any different ideas for me?

thanks in advance for your responses.

Very difficult.

Try searching for somebody who does Cast Iron Welding. It can be done, but I think you may have to take the engine apart.

The engine will realy have to be taken out the car to do this.

How come the mounting points got broken?

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
definitely a specialist job to weld cast iron. You need to get it very hot before welding, then slow down the cooling rate a lot or the crack will come straight back through the weld

hmmm are you sure? because a welding speacialist will make it using by electrode. and as I know by electrode no need to get it before welding.
