quick question for edde or fred or anyone :)

  BMW F31
the car is going in on friday to find out the cause of a vibration that has occured after having a driveshaft changed by another garage. the vibration comes through the pedals and slightly through the chassis between 4.5k and 5.5k approx.

i have been reading similar cases on the net with people with vibrations etc, does anyone think that my flywheel could be unbalanced? would that have been touched when the driveshaft was replaced? what else would have been touched/disturbed when the driveshaft was replaced?

or maybe it could be the exhaust? i have noticed the middle rubber mount is missing so the exhaust hanger has a witness mark on it where its rub a little bit.

cheers guys :)

flywheel is only accesable if u remove the gearbox so i doubt it's that.

to do a driveshaft (depending on what side) u gotta jack the car up and remove the wheel, loosen hub nut with someone stamping on the brakes, remove the 2 bolts at the bottom of your strut and pull the hub 2wards yourself then remove the splined shaft out the hub. (i think u might have to take the calipers off too)

If it's the drivers side it is either in with a split pin or sprung loaded and should just pull out of the gearbox. (remove pin first if applicable)

If it's the pass side u gotta split the 3 bolts on the flange that joins to the gearbox, be ready to catch your gearbox oil.. and again it just pulls out!

I would put my money on your exhaust, mines is doing it too but it's cos i've got a dodgy engine mount.. (another job for the weekend)

hope this helps.

Id put my money on the driveshaft either being bent or unbalanced

yeah cheers this helps quite a bit, it was the drivers side shaft that was replaced. i think it may be the exhaust but it wasnt doing the vibration before the drivehaft was replaced?

no its a patent which i have already been told by the renault specialist who are now going to look at it that they would always use a genuine one :(

haha, ahh mate im soooo pissed off about it all, guess i'll just have to wait and see what the garage say then pay for it :( oh yeah then claim it back from the garage that fucked it! had enough with being fucked over r.e car stuff so im gonna take it all the way even to court if i have to!

garage looked at it today, they have determined that the vibration still happens stationary, so getting a couple of exhaust mounts fitted on tuesday to eliminate that as a problem. they think it may be an egine problem now rather than a running gear problem.
at least it hasn't cost me too much, so now i need new brakes lol.

any ideas in this problem guys?
