Quick question regarding trade in’s....

Okay, car is meant to be in tomorrow for dealer to fix some problems, might not make it in as have a funeral but just in case would appreciate some advice........ i am wanting to have a "chat" with the dealer of his generous offer of £6k for my 1.4 16 with now 2350 miles on the clock against a 172 cup.....have been looking at parkers/glasses guide but they dont seem to be able to value cars on a 52 plate, anyone offer some advice on what car would be worth trade? peugeot offered me £7k for it against a 206.

As I said before, £6k is way too low. Accept absolutely no less than £6.5 and I reckon £7 is more like it. However, if you remember only 1 thing, remember this:

Do not buy a Peugeot 206. They suck.

;)

Youre right.....a lot of places dont seem to be up to date with valuations. I would just take the 51 plate (which seems to be the latest) value and add a bit (hopefully). Parkers say £6340 trade for a 51 plate with 2000 miles, so yours must surely be worth over £7k. I know they lose the bulk straight away, but its got to be worth a bit more than 6k

Dont forget that as soon as you drive a new car off the forecourt they drop by 17.5% as used cars dont have VAT (or shouldnt - but you cant trust dealers)!!

The Peugeot dealer is probably desperate to get rid of his not so good 206s so has offered you more. Why not tell the Renault dealer this, and say that you are rather tempted to go for the 206 because of the higher trade-in offer and maybe he will offer you more than £6,000 to secure the sale. Perhaps he knows he can sell his Renault easily to someone else if you dont have it.

Try playing one dealer off against another - we have done it and it works!! Never give a dealer the impression that you are desperately keen on a particular car and make the salesman work hard!

Definatley play them of against each other. I got approx £2k of a price of a new 307 from two dealers and played one of against the other to get a bit more for my car and a better finance rate.

Just hold your nerve;)
