f**k me!!! my dads a painter, if he did it he'd charge you well under £100. Thing is he lives in Plymouth. I tryed to get mine painted by a local garage, he wanted £200. I told him it was cheaper for me to drive to Plymouth and get my dad to do it for nothing. You could post it tho??

Its a load of crap mate, the guy tryed to blag me. I told him my dads a painter and he soon stopped talking s**te.
No matter what paints been used it needs to be lightly sand'ed down unless it has big digs and pitts in which case it may need a bit of stopper. Then primer, paint and laquer.
Whats the finish like? If its just come off another car thats a different colour it will just need a light keying with some scotchbrite, and maybe some primer.
If you want You can get primer from halfords in a tin. Trick is to put the tin in some boiling hot water before you spray to get the pressure up, then a few light coats. Dont go to mad, else you'l get runs. Then see how much he'l charge???

tbh if someone brought me some sidestrips which had been painted with aerosols, id tell them it would all have to come off too
i wouldnt risk just sanding them down and painting straight on top of it.
theybe be stripped back to plastic, 2k primed, based n laquered, so i can see where hes coming from, but not with the price

I can understand that he would want to take it back to plastic, as otherwise i would come back saying look its coming off, and it would be because he painted ontop of my foundations.
He broke the price down for me and said 130 for labour. Then materials took it too 260. Plus vat it came to 300

If you think prepping a spoiler that has been painted with an aerosol can is the same as 'just' prepping to paint then your being silly.
£200 I would charge as an estimate.
All this my dad could do it cheaper crap is fair enough but don't go to a decent garage and look for a cheaper quote than what bill and ted working out of a hut can give you.

I wasn't saying about your dad being a dodgy painter,
He would only charge for the materials and a little labour, don't compare that to a garage quote.
The fact the op has said he thinks it'll need prepped anyway what's the difference was what I was getting at!
There's a big difference.
I'm a bodyshop assessor but could squeeze the job for £200 but I see what you're saying mate.

thats a good price mate. im with gally on the preping side of it though. i hate preping things that have been arosol painted. you can almost garentee that it will react with the solvents in the fresh primer or paint which is a ball ache to put right. i just end up wipeing the aerosol off with thinners and starting again.
