R27 or Trophy?

I had a quick search but couldn't find any direct comparisons.

I have an 07 plate Fiesta ST at the moment, which is fun, but lacks that bit of oomph which the Clio's seem to possess.

I don't care about the car being new, or care too much about luxuries, I just want the best all round package in terms of involvement and 'driveability'.

Has anyone driven both?

I would want an R27 as opposed to a Cup 197, as I like the idea of the limited run of 500 :)

So, which should I go for?

If you dont want to spend anymore than 9k get a trophy if you want to spend about 12.5/13k you'll get a mint 2nd hand R27..

I've owned both a cup'd 182 and i've now got an R27 so i cant really speak for the trophy but the handling of the R27 is leagues ahead of the 182...

i've had 2 Trophy's and now got an R27.... nice progression for me tbh, Trophy is raw, but that's not to say the R27 isn't capable - it feels more planted to me and pure grin factor all the time - many have said it and i agree, the Trophy needed you to be in the mood for a hard drive all the time... it got on my tits at times when you were just using it to get from A to B for a purpose, or commuting to and from work. occasionally i think i miss my Trophy, but a drive in the R27 eliminates that thought for me.

Go and drive them both. Be mad to buy a car without driving. The 197 owners will say go for that, the 1*2 owners will say the trophy. When EVO (or Autocar, not sure) interviewed one of the engineers at Renaultsport Dieppe, he said it's an unfair comparison as the Trophy was the zenith of the 1*2 range with years of experience and development (and had specialised motorsport related parts), whereas we're still fairly early into the 197 lifespan.

Would you buy a car and say the old one was better? I'm not saying either is better, what I'm saying is make his own mind up. And I'd trust an unbiased engineer over a biased owner;). (Not that cup owners could be accused of rose tinted spex)

Lol, ive got a cup and would have an R27 in the blink of an eye.

He's not gonna buy either just on our say so, but was asking for an opinion from people that have driven both in this thread... !

Id guess he was gonna test drive them mate!

its all about the money imo

if moneys not an issue then get a r27, if you want to pay less than 9-10k get a trophy
 
  A4 DTM/iceberg cup
tough decision but id save a wedge and get a silver 172 cup woth some cracking suspension set up!

Id get neither...get a 197 Cup.

Drove one as Spa and it was awesome...much nicer place to be than the trophy too!
