Well the Mk4's just need the loom and stalk which you can get cheap. I'd need it activating on a vag com or whatever.

yeh, you go into adaption and change one of the numbers

Hmm. I may just try and find a company in the SW i can pay to do the lot. Dont spose you know of any? I know awesome do the lot for £120.00 but i'm not driving up north just for c/c.

Can I give it a go on mine? It looks like it'd fit!

I would have said you could bosh it on tonight, but ive already shipped it out to the new owner lol.

How much is the tool costing you Dave?

About £20 iirc, daft money really for what just looks like a slightly odd shaped socket, still hopefully make things a little easier!!!

You've got me looking at R32's man. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeez!

Ha ha, they are really quite good! Although having now wired my Pogo Alert (speed camera detector), i realise that im only getting 30mpg at 75mph as im actually only doing 68mph. The speedo overreads by about 8-9% lol. Considering BMW's are generally pretty spot on, the mpg im getting is actually rubbish. The M3 for example would do 27mpg at a real 80mph. :R32 Fail.

Dave, can you enable C/C on the MK4 platform?

Yeah, just buy the stalk i think (some might need another lead as well), then change the values in VCDS. Its actually surprising easily having been messing about with it over the weekend.

Fitted my new handsfree kit last night as well, sold the last Mki9200 i had with the 197 as it was a little unreliable in its operation ... so got this on eBay the other day for the bargain price of £85!! Considering the other two ive had were just under £160, im pretty chuffed :star:

Have also decided to keep the MFD2 headunit as the blue display is more in keeping with the rest of the dash (R32 comes with blue needles as well you see, instead of the red in lower models) and the RNS510 is essentially red only, so not as nice on the eye imho. Mission control at night though lol:

Did you buy the VW 'special hub spreader tool' - ive got one on order at the moment from the US, makes things a lot easier apparently!! My steering rack needs some investigation anyway i think, its not failing or pulling up any fault codes, but there is some movement/knocking in it somewhere, god knows where though lol. Will look further when i pull the suspension apart.

Easy peasy with the hub spreader. Assuming the R32 is the same as the S3 and runs aluminium hubs be careful as the tool can take chunks out of the hub.

Oh and you could've picked up a laser copy for £10 and it'd be here by now.

To be fair, on my last tank in the T. I did a real world MPG of 35, motorway with the odd few short journeys. So not massively better than the R32! But the over reading is quite interesting!

So a couple of boxes arrived this morning so i now have nearly all the tools/parts needed for my suspension refresh ...

Nearly new AP Coilovers
New Powerflex front wishbone inner bushs-front, & Whiteline anti-lift kit (replaces the front wishbone bush-rear)
New OEM balljoints, ARB droplinks, top mounts (inc. bearings) & shock absorber bolts

So, hopefully next weekend ill pull it all apart - weather depending of course. Should tighten things up a little :star:

This Sunday i need to give it a clean though lol, hasnt been done since July when i bought it!!!

Still loving it though, i'll never tire of the rasp :clown:

My heart sinks a little when I see one. I have genuine hate for the fact the mrs talked me out of one. Looks great mate!

Having just bought 6 months road tax, you probably went with the cheaper to run option lol.

£253

Ouch! Are there any MkV R32's in the cheaper tax bracket? (Not sure on the years/months it went massively expensive)

Yeah, think the '55 plate ones are, everything '06 onwards is £460 a year!!

Which is ouch at the time (like now lol), but over the course of the year, its only an extra £15 or so a month really.

It's not a huge amount in the great scheme of things but it must really sting in one go!! I don't think I'd buy one in the higher band unless it was very cheap.

You've got till the 23rd March 06 so there will be a few 06's that are still the lower rate.. Old Saab was 06 registered 3/3/06 and was in by 20 days,.

Quite a lot done this weekend, so a quick overview of my efforts - rather pleased with myself as changing suspension on a Golf Mk5 seems considerably more in depth than the clios!! Although i did the necessary research, printed off some guides and most importantly, bought the proper tools for the job (strut spreader tool, etc). Also got to use the impact gun that mum & dad bought me for my birthday at last.

Firstly, a before photo. The last time a sponge touched the car was back in July, although im sure you would never have guessed.

IMG_2606.jpg

Then went over to Sarah's parents house, jacked it up and essentially made a bit of a mess everywhere

IMG_2610.jpg

IMG_2611.jpg

Once jacked up, i was faced with a rather old, dirty spring/damper/top mount/ARB droplink with circa 102k miles on it.

IMG_2608.jpg

Needless to say, the bolts holding this lot on were rather tight, so i was glad off the breaker bar/impact gun/rubber mallet combo. So after a little bit of swearing, cuts & bruises i was faced with something rather prettier and considerably less knackered & rattly.

IMG_2614.jpg

I then moved onto the other side, which as per usual took half the time of the first side as i actually knew what i was doing now!! Only issue was that the guide that i was following was for a pauper spec Gti, without Xenons, so when i put all of my body weight on the hub/wishbone to slide the damper out, the xenon adjuster that connects to the wishbone pulled apart :dapprove: ive sorta fixed it with duct tape, but im pretty sure im blinding everyone in front now. Best fix that really ....

Rears were much much simply than the fronts, & you dont even need access to the boot as per the clio's. I also remembered the xenon adjuster this time, so no more breakages!! No pics of before, but after looked like this:

IMG_2616.jpg

Now being an old f4rt, i didnt really want it any lower than before - i bought the AP's as they considerably cheaper than buying new standard stuff - so set it to minimum lows on the rear, then adjusted the fronts to match. No doubt it will all settle a bit this week so i'll make any necessary adjustments next weekend. I think at the moment, its about 15mm lower than standard (R32's being lower than Gti's already, so perhaps 30mm over a normal golf?).

So, some before/after shots of the 'arch gap' - note i have about 3 ton of tools/parts in the before photo, so the rear up is already quite low:

And some of the full car:

IMG_2623.jpg

And after pressure washing it last night. Too cold/lazy to get the sponge out, but it does look slightly more presentable :p

IMG_2637.jpg

Still need to change the front inner wishbone bush to the Powerflex one and the rear to the Whiteline anti-lift kit, but the difference in handling is already quite noticeable. Car corners a lot flatter and has that lovely 'lowered' feel about it. The ride quality is certainly no worse than standard, which is exactly what i wanted, & part of the reason for getting the more 'soft' AP's instead of more handling focussed Bilstein B14/H&R's (other reason was price).

I'll be fitting a Whiteline rear ARB at some point anyway so that will be the final piece in the jigsaw. Looking at those photos, i also think the passenger side is slightly lower than the drivers at the moment so will need to adjust accordingly.

Anyways, hope you like my boring, understeer led, overweight, german fuel guzzler. Its probably the best overall car ive owned

Looking nice. Just needs some 10mm spacers on the rear now..;)

AP's do ride nice though for budgets.

Cant stand this whole urge to make ones wheels line up with the arch though im afraid - just reminds me of a Corsa B with Ripspeed alloys of incorrect offset. Mind you, im sure it wouldnt look at daft as some of the 197/200's that are floating around on here ;)
