Radar Detector!

After searchin ive noticed this is an ever popular topic on these forums :)

Anyways, im looking for a cheap radar detector (will prolly pick one up off ebay or the like).

Im looking to spend upto £150 max and want something that will pick up portable speed traps. Im not too worried about fixed cameras as i know where most of them are around my area. The main thing i want the detector to do is pick up portable trap like the mobile vans and coppers with guns.

Any info or recommendations would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Dazz

Doubt youll get a good one for that price unless its secondhand - try networx Express. They do an exchange scheme so may have some older secondhand ones there!

Ive got one but Rich on RSC wants it....

Just whatever you do dont get the £99 snooper, its not worth the money mate (although i havent used one so anyone can correct me on that!!!)

Id save up and get a good one - else itll be pointless.

Roamers GPS one is amazing.. Id definetly get a GPS one..

Mate of mine mentioned the other day, that if the police pull you over and see your radar detector, then they can remove it under some obscure law.

Anyone else heard of this?

Origin Blue has things called "hiding holes" - it tells you if theres a common mobile location about! Very cool methinks.

Yeah, can second that the cheaper £99 snooper is a whole heapo sh*te! It detects cameras okay, but it also detects traffic lights (very useful), filling stations and automatic doors.

I can get hold of radar detectors from the US. The radar bands are all the same X, K and Ka bands. I have one and so does my girlfriends Dad. Neither of us have any problems. they have the same spec with regards to what they detect as a top end Snooper. Yours for £150 brand new. Let me know if youre interested.

Cheers

Ditto that comment - 990 rocks.

If youre only staying local 99% of the time when you go out and dont really touch motorways that much, you may as well get a radar detector rather than a GPS thingy. GPS is good for SPECS motorway cameras and the like, but it wont pick up mobile vans and man-with-a-hairdrier like a detector can.

Elliot - Im interested to know more about this! What have you heard?

This is your lucky day mate. Ive got a Snooper S5R for sale mate ( its in classifieds) Only a month old all boxed up and mint. Saved my bacon more than a few times believe me. £320 new, I wanted £200 for it but im sure we could come to some sort of arrangement. Give us a shout if you want any more info.

Like matey says, dont get the £99 Snooper. Total waist of time, just picks up traffics lights, hairdriers, electric toothbrushes etc....

i can get hold of the snooper 715is for £60 brand new!well i think i can still get em not seeb the guy for 1 wk.i have got 1 and it works good also pics up sum cop cars to

Police cars use something called VASCAR. Basically uses the equation speed=distance/time which is the only thing that cannot be picked up. Policein the back of the van can be picked up as they use laser, red light cameras and any other camera that uses an inductive loop obviously cannot be detected as they do not use a radar band.

Cheers
