Rattle on 182 exhaust..dilema

  Shhh
Car warranty is up in 18 days, took the car about 4 times to renault grimsby for the exhaust to be looked at. The first 2 times the car went into renault, they managed to cure the rattle, but then it came back later on. Then they start telling me at the 3rd time that its the baffles in the exhaust, i took the car to the local exhaust garage to be looked at, as renault cant seem to fix the damn thing.

They tell me its the sleeve from the centre & rear section that is worn, and that this is causing the exhaust to rattle.

I take the car back to renault, they tell me its the heatshield that is loose, and that its not covered by warranty.

This is getting pathetic, as its clearly not the heatshield as the exhaust garage pointed it out to me whilst the car was on the ramps...

What do i do now, im thinking about ringing renault uk and going with the info they give me and buying the part that is needed...

Anyone have any idea what it costs, and what the delivery forecast would be on such part.

Its more than likely the cat/center section clamp.

They are rubbish and come loose. a new one is about £2.
The other issue i have personally had is the cat splits around the flange that is clamped, i fixed it by welding a new flange onto the cat.

had the cat replaced last year under warranty, dealer is saying its not a renault warranty issue. I contacted renault uk asking them about the exhaust and they said it was not, i then said about the front section and exhaust expansion chamber being replaced inc clamps, and he then come onto my side. I asked for pt numbers of items replaced but was unable to provide me with the info on the parts so i/we could identify if they are an affecting factor into the fault.

Renault grimsby has had the car 4 times for the exhaust, and they still cant fix it. Ive asked for the car to be put on the ramps so i can have a look and they can show me where it is faulty, then i can show them where i/we (north lincs tyre & exhausts) thing the fault is coming from, well more the fact that its blowing from the joint and if you lift the rear exhaust box the box moves into the clamp/sleeve where it is blowing.

Maybe something, maybe nothing..but i have a strong feeling that a renault mechanic (quick fix & out) will have egg on his face later...

Pictures to follow..

Nez has major probs with his exhaust, think it's centre section X6, manifolds as well.

I think the joint is the weak link ;)

exhaust man just said get it welded up, want the MOT done this weekend so its one less hassle if it fails to get it repaired under warranty..

You cant beat welding the thing up.

The exhaust on mine has had all of the weak points sorted.
Sounds terrible but its not going to fall off.

Good news & bad news..

The car went into renault for.

1. Exhaust Rattling Again
2. Seat not locking into place correctly
3. Clunk from suspension on full lock in reverse.

1. The exhaust was passed out as not being faulty, even though when the car was on the ramps the leak from the exhaust could be easily seen. I pointed this out, and he said he had put a washer on the heatshield as it had been rattling from there, but nevermind the remainder of the rattle from the exhaust. I simply pushed the exhaust up on the clamp, and the rattle went away....magic eh..

2. The seat was sorted apparently, well when i got in the car to go home, the seat did not move, then eventually the handle snapped from the use. They said they can work it now, but i can bring it back later. They offered to collect the car, but when i said that i live 37.9miles away, they retracted that offer. I seem too think the handle will be replaced now FOC funny enough, and maybe the seat repaired. You can grab hold of it and move it about 1/2" forward and back if you rock it. The passenger one does not do this, and it sure did not does this before hand.

There is metal filings on the floor behind the seat, therefore ive no idea what he has filed off..

3. No fault found this one.

Ive got a modified clamp on mine

Its a bit of SS pipe thats welded at one end with a u-clamp on the other end.

It never leaks.

  Shhh
I just could not believe they did not notice this. Its not hard to see. There was water coming out of it...

oh, it must be the heat shield..

mines leaking where the cat clamps to the centre section. My cat back isn't renault though.

When I drive in the wet I hear a juddering noise which is actually the gas hissing out through the wet cat lol.
