RB 182, back on the road

A long story to this but will cut short, i bought the RB off Christopher back in March with 2nd gear synchro gone and a missfire. A 500 mile round trip to Bolton with a stop at BTM to pick up another gearbox and it's back at home. A good friend of mine Matt who rns Codered Motorsport was 1st choice to swap over gearboxes soon after, but due to very unfortunate personal circumstances he was not able to be on hand to do the job. Last week i made a phone call to have someone else do the swap so the RB was trailored to Upminster in Essex.. Gearbox done.

In between all this it's had a missfire, not having fault code readers and not having the chance to get it anywhere its sat on the driveway along with me changing bits over everynow and then. Thankfully Matt is back on hand to diagnose the missfire fault with the Renault CLIP system, its showing the post cat sensor and sure enough when under the car you could see why. As the car is sitting so low it seems like something's snagged the lambda sensor wire and ripped it out of the connector, to get it running the sensor has been temporarily hard wired. At a later date another connector will be soldered in place which will give me 2 lambda sensors the same length so i don't need a long cabled item.

Anyway, it's finally back on the road with a nice to-do list on Renault parts that will be fitted over the next 2-3 weeks. £30 worth of V Power today with the tyres pumped up and i'm 1 happy person, sounds well with the Milltek exhaust and certainly goes well.

Amazing piece of kit the CLIP, you can read so much data on it

I thought the post cat sensor only monitored emissions, so how would that be causing the misfire?

Looks lovely anyway mate!

From little of what i know is that it takes the reading from both sensors, the pre cat sensor works fine but with the post cat sensor not plugged in it cant read anything. The data showed a flat line and IIRC left on an open loop, when the car warms up there's no reading and throws up a fault.......................... I think thats how it works.

We tested both sensors last night by heating them up with a mini gas torch then taking a voltage reading, the hotter they get the voltage rises, apparently half a volt.

Matthew: Agreed it sits too low, it rides on Gaz and to be honest they're a little past their best. For what it would cost to refurb all four i'd either purchase a new set or go back to OE dampers and decent springs.

Rhysbartley: No expense spared, only genuine Renault items fitted or good known aftermarket products. I owned the white 172 Lewis has and that had decent money spent on it.

Things done:
Replace aftermarket Simota IK for OE inlet and airbox
New Renault rear number plate light
Replace damaged OE front splitter with K Tec carbon splitter

To do list:
Fit new Renault HT leads
Fit new NGK PFR6E-10 spark plugs
Fit new inlet to servo vacuum pipe
Order new Renault rear brake discs and pads
Order Brembo HC front discs, have Carbon Lorraine pads to go in
Look into another set of dampers all round
Buy another cup spoiler brake light

Interior is immaculate, steering wheel with no melting so all will be left there

Hell that was a nightmare! But yes almost forgotten :D

It will most certainly be looked after, i'll just need a list of products used that keep it nice and shiney

I'd also like to say i bought this RB without looking at it, as soon as i saw the ad go up i knew i had to buy it. I felt confident enough in how Chris came over with how the Clio was that it had to be bought. I knew the gearbox change wouldnt be a problem as well as sorting the missfire. I spoke to Chris a few times over the phone all the way through the deal, recovery issues and final pick up and will say he was absolute star. Never had any problems, anything i requested like pics or info it was always on hand. Highly appreciated

No worries mate, it was a pleasure dealing with you too.

I felt awful about the jokers who picked it up even though it was no fault of either of us.

I'm really glad it's back on the road though, that's definitely what it needed. Enjoy mate!

Will definitely enjoy it, it's going over to the French National Day next month for the weekend so a nice opportunity to stretch it's legs properly :)
