RB 182 or a Trophy ?

  MK3 GTI golf 16v
what are people general opinion? im looking at changing car fairly soon and have narrowed it down to these two options. i absolutely love the trophy hands down, its colour, the recaros, wheels etc etc. but the RB colour is just amazing and i cant pick between them.

insurance wise they are the same price basically, but the RB will work out cheaper to buy. but i would probably have to buy some recaros for it so it would work out nearly the same i would of thought.

what are peoples opinions on this ?

Trophy loses climate and xenons as well as auto lights & wipers. Personally I'd have the Trophy, but if you really fancy the extra (rather bad) toys then the RB makes sense if you love the colour. You could spend the money saved on a quality aftermarket suspension, although it's really not needed anyway.

What do you want it for? If you just want a 2.0 Clio then rb ftw, if you want the best handling and driving experience from a Clio then the trophy, it's creature comforts (for lack of a better word) against a more 'focused' car...

I've said that very bluntly but it's the best way to think about it if you're unsure

thats a good point, the loss of the little extras with the trophy. i will be using it for track days but not a huge amount just yet, maybe a few a year. so the less dedicated car would make sense. hmmm

Get the trophy.

It'll hold a bit more value, providing you dont start trying to "improve" it

thats the thing, if i did buy the 182 cup, id have to change the seats because i hate them. plus probably the suspension. whereas the trophy has that already done but has less creature comforts.

what exactly is missing off the trophy?

  Focus Tit Est & R26
personally i would go with the Trophy, its exclusive and looks great
if you dont mind missing xenons :( and climate is no big problem just open the windows :D

Solved.
Trophy it is.

Just dont start fettling with it and you've got a classic... it may even hold onto some value!

nah if i got the trophy i wouldnt be doing anything to it, that was kind of the attraction knowing it needed nothing spent on it.

what where they sold for when they where new ? they seem to be going for around 6k give or take which aint to bad given how much the recaros are on there own, i would of thought after a few years ill get fairly good money for it as theyll slowly get harder to find

I was in the same predicament as you due to loving both cars.

What swung it for me for the Trophy was:

1. Exclusivity and possible classic car status (based on the williams), plus better residual value.
2. The seats.
3. The suspension.
4. The colour.
5. Buying the RB 182 and then the extra cost of mods (seats/suspension etc).

Set your price target, mileage and level of service history required - then sit and wait BUT dont rush into buying one.

Id pay the extra to get a good trophy over an rb each and every day tbh, i love driving our kids trophy and you can feel they are something special the minute you jump into it.

Yes but then dampers are consumables anyway. Ideally they should be replaced when they start getting old on any car.

Trophy, kept as Renault intended, and well maintained.

It'll actually be worth something in a few years.

Trophy every day of the week.

Yeah you have the extra cost if refurbishing the sachs dampers but for the sheer driving experience i would say its worth it.

I have read and seen that the dampers need done every 50/60K miles but how true this is i do not know.

  Discounted 1*2 parts
personally I think the recaro treadlines are over-rated. I found my standard 182 seats more comfortable and more supportive!

having the dampers refurbed every 50/60K is hardly anything to worry about... i am swaying at the trophy
