removing catalytic convertor... HELP!!!!

  1998 BMW e46 323i
172 2001, I'm in the middle of removing the cat to fit a replacement. I'm undoing the two spring loaded bolts that attach the cat down pipe to what I presume must be the manifold.

Ok, I'm undoing and undoing.... Have been undoing for what seems like a day. Do I just keep undoing these bolts or am I missing something; feels like the threads on the bolts are coming out of Mary Poppins' bag!!!!

Any help appreciated.

John

the chance are the whole thing thread and nut are turning,of you've loosend it slightly you need to either put a little downward pressure on the downpipe and undo the bolt or use something to grip the bolt but its quite tricky

If I ever meet this chap the drinks are on me!

3 hrs on all is well. Tis an awkward job, don't care what anyone says.

Entire standard exhaust (bar manifold) fitted now at a cost of £530, (rear silencer £95 from CES UK, centre section £240 from Renault and catalytic convertor, £195 delivered from Cats 4 Less) Ouch.

Sounds great though; smooth as a baby's behind. As the boys at Dieppe made it.

There is a very very quiet high pitch rattle on overrun, but hey I can live with that.

Tomorrow according to my satnav I've got *172* miles of rural N.Wales to drive - Bring it on!
