Removing sound deadening from firewall?

Car  Clio 172 Cup
Has anybody removed the black sound deadening from between the engine and the firewall on a Phase 1. Mine is very tatty and I just fancy getting shot of it all together to be honest.

Anybody done it? If so, how hard/fiddly is it with the car in the air? And does it result in a very noisy and uncomfortable 172? How about the underbonnet deadening? Any significant noise increase?....(I'm nearly 30 now and not a fan of excessive induction noise!)

took mine out the other day. to be honest if you cut it then its easier to remove, maybe a ten min job.

doesnt really make it that much noisier to be honest either.

I think it will make it on to my job list for Sunday if its not too difficult. Dig the Stanley knife out me thinks!

I took the underbonnet one off a long time ago. I think I can just about see a small area on the bonnet where the heat may have affected the paint, but hardly noticeable. I'd replace the 'firewall' with something else though, something that looks better like some heat shield foil if you can find it. I've been casually looking for stuff, but never found anything. Mine has turned brown so want to do the same thing. Don't fancy leaving the throttle cable and clutch cable exposed to heat from the exhaust in traffic.
