Renault / Volvo engines

Since 1.4 T engine from R5 GTT is pretty exhausted, I still want to buy the car but need a optional backup for engine swap.

I considered F7P and then turbo it, Ill do it maybe one time, but what about Volvo 440 1.7 NA engine? Is is suitable for turbo? Or maybe some other engine that will fit with out bigger hassle? My friend put Volvo engine (dont know excatly which one) in R5 GTE, I think he didnt do any mods to engine bay, just take out and put in.

Are there any other Volvo engines? Or is that 1.7 from 440 ready for turbo? So plan would be that engine plus trionic from SAAB...would it be good?

  Corsa 2.0 16v baby

they do a volvo 1.7 440 turbo lump thatll fit straight in ish. waste of time thou, that 1940s push rod lump is the frogs bollox and is as good if not better than the 1.7 conversion. a few modern tweeks and its more reliable than itll get credit for :D

the volvo 1.7 engines are all renault engines, volvo bought the design from renault it was originally a 1.7 carb engine that was in the ren 5 gtx or summit, volvo made it injection, then they also bolted a turbo on it, in standard form according to volvo the 1.7 turbo is 130 bhp.

tomorrow my volvo 1.7 turbo engine is going in my 1.4 rt :D

the 1.4 is a better engien than the 1.7 turbo, stronger mainly. Capacity is meaningless with forced induction engines, all that matters is mechanical strength and thermal efficiency. Well maybe not on a road engien but it is if you want big power.

I would avoid the volvo lumps. Theres a reason the 400 series cars are the most unreliable volvos! lol

OK, fair enough...

Is it smart to increase GTTs 1.4 T engine by thicker head gasket, and raise it to lets say 1.5 or 1.6 and lower the comp.?

you cant use a gasket to increase capacity, even a single CC change in the chamber volume will reduce CR a fair amount.

Plus, itll look silly and seal badly with a 10mm thick gasket!

Volvo had nearly gone bust when they approached a few other car manufacturers who werent interested. renault however supplied engines and Volvo survived to put a long story into a short one!
