Replacement 172 Steering wheel (again)......

  Trophy #267
I just have a query about another replacement steering wheel im about to have on my (now out of warranty) 04 172.
When I found this place last year my local deal was delighted :) to see me regularly with a list of thing to have replaced under warranty which I wasnt aware of until reading on here, the steering wheel was one of them due to the grips peeling away.
I noticed last week that past of the leather that is pulled around the edge had started to peel so straight back to the dealer i went .
Straight away I was told that any warranty work will match the rest of the warranty of the vehicle (it ran out last month) so tough.
A quick phone call to Renault Customer Services (via http://www.renault.co.uk/ContactCustomerServices.aspx ) and I was asked to take the car to a dealer and they report back to cust services with probable cause and how to rectify the problem. I was rung yest by the customer relations manger from hq (a pleasant lady named Sandra Nelmes) offering me 80% of the cost of a new steering wheel covered. As of yet I am unaware what the 20% is I have to pay but is this ok ?
Initially I was ready to declare war on my local dealer and insist on 12 months warranty for this part but the 20% seems reasonable for me.
My only question is to confirm what the actual cost of the wheel is from a different dealer and if im being charged for labour to fit then id rather do it myself.

Thoughts please !

If it's out of warranty and they are paying 80% of the cost I'd rip there arm off for the new steering wheel!!!

Just re-read the last sentance. I have no idea how much the steering wheel costs. maybe phone the parts desk and ask for a quote?

the price will include fitting.. your probs looking about 150 quid that you will have to pay.... which is alright imo...

Just spoken to a diff dealer than the one which I have uded before.
>deep breath<
Full cost of new sterring wheel £317.61 with fitting @ £32.90 pn# 8200057779 which, if i was to fit, would mean i'm liable to pay £63.52.
>breathe out<
Shall see what the crappy dealer actually comes back to me with now...

I dont officailly know yet. Those numbers were from a 2nd dealer i phoned so that I will be able to tell if the one im expecting to call (the crap one) are telling porkies or not... 2nd dealer said wheel is £317 and fitting is a flat £32.90. Im still waiting for the officai response and if they match

This is ridiculous... We know how useless the wearing of the steering wheel is so why dont they make them more robust?
Mine needs a new one but i refuse to pay the price for one from Renault so ive bought a Momo which are better quality.. Sure theres no airbag but i would rather have something thats not going to need replacing in 5k or so. Do Renault know about the timidness of the wheels?

yes, but like everything with renault, shocks, engine mounts, engines, gearboxes etc etc "there's no problem there sir/madam"

the only benefit of actually paying my 20% would be that id then get 12 months warranty with it, which seems to not apply if its a complete freebie.
What i am considering also is that if i do pay 20% and keep the old one i could get it recovered properly and then sell the new one. Still waiting btw...

ANY new parts or work done on your car (regardless of who is paying, customer or Renault) is covered by 12months

really ? From various conversation I have had with ppl ive heard its a common thing to only honour warranty work untill the warranty on the vehicle expires. Certianly looks the case with Renault as the customer realtions manager i spoke to yesterday said 'we cant cover 100% of the cost but all we can offer is 80%'
Im not sure how you could challenge it tho. I have no receipt to say i bought the oringal sterring wheel last august for zero cost altho it does show on there system.

  Lionel Richie
well if it shows on their system and you have a bank statement showing the payment to Renault i don't see a problem, kick up a fuss, you always have to when you want something out of them

100% certain, any new parts bought from renault have a 12month warranty from date of purchase

RE: steering wheel, why not fit a laler version with the Renaultsport badge at the bottom?

Nicer and harder wearing.

  Trophy #267
thats my point fred, i havent, altho it must show on their system.
Re newer ones being harder wearing  - it is !! so is a newer one with the renaultsport logo on the bottomso id hate to see one of the old ones

ta for the offer macdaddy but im waiting on what the stealers have to say.....

Oh joy - it gets better & better.
Last fri = still no contact from dealer so spoke to Cust services HQ again and said not happy and want o complain. A 4 page letter later in the post to general manager of dealership and im feeling better. No response until today where dealer emails me (from email addy which was on the letter) saying my 20% to pay is £141.12 ,,,,,,,, OMFG !!!! I politely enquired how that price breaks down for parts, fitting , vat 80/20 split to be told thats Renault keep that info confidential. 5 mins later a diff dealer had provided me the info over the phone and via fax.
Am currently awaiting a return phone call from customer services HQ as the manager i spoke to b4 was on the phone.

PLEASE OH PLEASE, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO SUNWIN RENAULT @ DERBY !!
