Rob_SRi Monaco 172 Project Thread

@mharvey has been moaning at me to get them silver for ages hah!!

some bright yellow turinis then with purple center caps? perfect!

silver it is then i think :P gotta try find the part number for std silver centre caps now as mine are mullered and very much anthricite! got a feeling that they may well be quite expensive from Renault!

About £15ish each for centre caps...

I bought some last year, took them straight to my wheel refurb guy and he sprayed them anthracite to match the wheels. Hadn't even left the packet! That was upsetting...

ahh 15ish isnt as bad as I had feared but still enough!! still enough to ruin your day when you're getting them sprayed straight away!

yeah 100% matthew! brighter the better  without going to bling bling chrome rimz!!!

HAHA YES YES YES YES!!!

You're not lying, I have been moaning but for good reason and now CS (almost in it's entirety) has backed me up!!! Silver!!!

The other Matthew is right too though, the brighter the better. When I had mine done they were the brightest and you know they looked the mutts nuts!

Well.. A lot has changed since I updated last..

It's been polished..(again)

Yeahhhhh... Whoops!! My fault entirely..! Someone tried to squeeze past me on a narrow country road and smacked my mirror back.. She just drove at me full speed ahead, I was pretty much stationary and she had the audacity to swear at me after I hit the horn for almost taking me out!!

My foot went down in anger.. (Bad call)

Hot sunny day, 595 RSRs, and a 100k gearbox..

Safe to say the rubber won the argument..

Play stupid games... win stupid prizes

After a short and embarrassing trip via the AA and a long boring drive back to Birmingham on a trailer it was time to take it apart..

(The AA wanted £500+ to get the car recovered from London to Birmingham as stupidly I didn't have relay)

me and Matt Harvey stripped it down.. Brought back many memories of previous boxes for both of us!

Yeah.. I kind of did a little better this time..

And I got 2 boxes for the price of one..

Supra gave up too after 500lbft on the dyno..

With lots of help from some good mates they were both back on the road again :) with newly refreshed boxes!

Until I decided to try and solve a lambda fault which started off as a frayed loom.. So I figured the best way to solve this was with a new loom.. Unbeknown to me there are several ph2 172 looms.. When I say several.. I mean 3 or 4 different looms for seemingly the same car!

So that was a pain..

The same only completely f*cking different!

Absolutely loved reading this thread, nice way to spend Sunday morning in bed.

I remember your old 182, made me want a Jon Ashley exhaust and pop and bang rs turner. Your 172 really shows how nice these cars are as a standard unit. Don't know if its just me but still think theses cars stand out from all the modern stuff on the road. Stunning car and a credit to all your hard work, keep it up and pm me if you ever want to sell up

Cheers guys :) it's been a long time since I updated as just been so busy!

I still miss my black one! That was a little beast!..Was nice having the extra power from the cams and map.

Think I'm going to stick an RS Tuner map on this one and get some decent suspension/rarb on etc too to give it that bit more down the bottom of the Rev range and sharpen the handling a bit..

I have bought a new daily whilst the Clio was messing about so I've gotta make the decision on which goes.. I don't want to sell the Clio though really so I think the Beemer may be up for sale shortly.. And it can free up a bit more cash..!

Loving both the original 182, 172 and of course the Supra!! All look fantastic

Do you have a progress thread for the Black 182? Wouldn't mind reading about some of the mods, and finding out what coilovers your one!

Cheers, James

How did you rate the Jon Ashley Exhaust on your 182? Thinking of using him, did you have it mild or stainless steel?

Thanks

Yeah he did a great job tbf mine was mild but I'm gonna get him to do this at some stage in stainless :)

Also he gives me some pretty good discount known him for years.. Say you've spoken to me on the forums and he will sort you out a decent price.. :)

And then disaster struck! Somehow the power steering pump seized.. And I think I managed to flick something into the aux belt run too because this is the state of the pulley.. Still a mystery to what happened

Something hit the sump too..

So took it to mick at diamond motors to get it sorted and back up and running..

Luckily I managed to get away without taking the timing belt out and the engine was fine although timing had shifted very slightly..

Got to love a monaco!! lovely car mate, I wish I had the time to spend on mine and get it as lovely and clean as when I bought it.

Keep up the good work

Will be keeping a close eye on this, looks tidy! I'm yet to give mine the paint correction it so desperately needs, mechanical first!

Car looks great! Did you put a new engine mount on when you fitted the powerflex bush or just used the old one? Much improvement?

Just had a read of the whole thread looks absolutely stunning, just bought myself a 172 cup and im also in Birmingham so hopefully see this around
