Rusty’s Titanium 182 take 2!

And so here it is, or I guess I have ended up here. So as many will know I have spent the last months of furloughed living working on a titanium 182 I purchased after weeks of looking in a moment of frustration in not finding what I was looking for. The car was great in that it kept my mind busy whilst I took a forced 15 week break from work. Needless to say last weekend the realisation set in. Every time I repaired something on the car, I would walk into another ‘issue’ I considered my options, the amount I had already invested (scary) and the fact that once mechanically I had sorted everything I still had a car with rough bodywork.



So where did that leave me! Well I then stumbled on an ad on Facebook. Chap was selling a 182, in titanium (I’m mad but it’s my favourite colour on a 182 outside of LY and RB) looked immaculate in photos, quick Facebook stalk showed he was a normal chap in his 40’s and upon speaking to him I realised he had loved this car for 3 years and no expense had been spared in the maintenance of it. Was fairly clear by the number of people commenting it wasn’t going to hang about. So I agreed (to my wife’s disgust on my birthday) to drive up straight away to view. 2 1/2hours up north, was absolutely worth it! A car that was pretty much mint, certainly a great starting point to build from. Went for a drive the car started and ticked over like a Swiss watch, it pulls like an absolute train and there is absolutely no knocks or groans. Not to mention a dashboard that was free from fruit machine style lighting. Furthermore the car had passed its MOT that morning with no advisories! It’s just a very straight and honest car. To be honest (I know I’m gushing) but I just knew it was ‘right’



I picked the car up last night, brimmed the tank with shell V-power and let my brother drive it home for me! Didn’t miss a beat, all 110 miles and averaged 40mpg!



So what next, well I’ll update the thread with more specification and pictures over the coming days. The car isn’t without fault (only place I didn’t check for rust was the fuel flap...having repaired that on my old one you think I would know better) there are a couple of parking dings, and the headlights need restoring. But largely it’s all easy, enjoyable bits I can crack on with at home. Sadly I’m banned from touching it until such time as I get rid of my old 182! (So if anyone is wants it to continue where I left off or for a track chassis or to break as parts drop me a PM) Plan this weekend is o bolt the old car back together so I can list it for sale. At which point I can then start the work on the new car. I have my Turini’s to go on and I actually want to use the car and get some enjoyment out of it before we lose what’s left of the summer. So if there are any group drives or meets coming up somewhere near the south/south west or even midlands let me know


Anyway Immediate priorities are:
1) swap horrible aerial
2) remove stickers from everywhere
3)silver bulbs
4) paint callipers back to silver
5) coolant flush and header bottle replaced
6) clean engine bay

Thanks guys, really appreciate the likes and positive comments. I am absolutely chuffed with the car. Can’t wait to get it insured properly and taxed. Managed to sneak one upgrade in today whilst wife was out dropping my daughter off somewhere! I swapped the front indicator bulbs from my original car into the new. Much prefer the lack of orange on the front of the car! Just highlighted how much the lights need a polish now!

So in terms of current Spec as bought.
Eibach Pro springs
Snappy wheel
Fatty induction kit
Powerflex ARB bushes (thank god)
Powerflex dogbobe
New Compbrake solid top mounts
K-tech cat back with powerflex mounts
Carbon front cup splitter! Never been broken or repaired!!! (Sure I’ll sort that 😂)

Mira also just had a new clutch and Aux belt kit fitted. Cambelt due November next year on age (only done 10k since last belt) I’ll book it in after Around Easter next year I think, get everything sorted before hopefully heading to the ring.

It also came with 4 new Rainsport 5’s, which is great as I’ll get them swapped into my Turini’s prior to fitting.
So jobs list Short term:
- fit my carbon bits and bobs I have been collection
- swap out remainder Orange bulbs
- remove all the bloody srickers
- 3/4 front plate and new rear
-new number plate lamp
- paint callipers silver (why people have the. A colour god knows unless they are Brembo)
- Full coolant flush and replacement header
- find a better drivers seat or just bite bullet and buy some Recaros
- Detail/clean engine bay
- All non load bearing bolts replaced with Stainless
- ProAm stainless exhaust mounts
-Yanoo shifter bushing.

longer term:
- Full specialist cambelt service
- Tackle fuller car surface rust
- Treadline seat upgrade
- Brembo brake conversion
- Trophy spoiler
- Dent man for parking dings

obviously these jobs list are going to likely spiral, it’s a clio after all!

Congratulations on the purchase, looks like a good one. It's great when you just know it's 'right'.

I know titanium doesn't always get much love, but I think it looks great with anthracite wheels!!

Thank you, I know it’s not everyone’s first choice. But I was specifically looking for a titanium! I’m not a big fan of the other colours at all. I really like the more ‘special’ Racing Blue and Liquid yellow. But outside of those really I don’t like the others. I love Titanium when it’s clean and in the sun. It just doesn’t photo particularly well. You just have to look at @MrBlonde car to see a titanium executed well. Hoping mine will end up 90% as good as his. Without copying his car...

If you are after a local specialist for the cambelt service I would reccomend Trad N Save in Gloucester. Awful sounding name and does not give the impression of quality. But they are the old Renault dealer and a lot of their staff are the original ones from when it was a dealer. I took my original Ph1 to them many years ago and have just taken my new Ph1 to them the other week for this exact job. Spot on service, the guys know their stuff. Was pleased that I am returning a Ph1 back to its original glory.

I know what you mean about miles means nothing. Old Ph1 was on 170k miles and it was perfect and faultless. Well looked afterm despite the track abuse it had. People were not interested in it when I sold it due to "high miles". I'd rather see a full servie folder and evidence it has been looked after than a low mile one with no evidence of maintenance.

I managed to get my old Titanium Ph1 looking spot on, colour suited it well. Will be doing the same with this other one as that is also titanium! Budget did not stretch to an Odessey Blue or Flame Red. However I am happy with the colour, polished up and clean it looks smart.

Thanks, was aware of Trade n save. But was looking on sending it further a field. As I’d like to have a diamond seal of approval on the car in the future. Guess I’ll decide nearer the time. Thing is with colour, my wife just told me rather fed up kind, to crack on and just spend what I need to, to get what I want. I just didn’t see the value in the special colour tax, when titanium is one of my favourites 😂 it’s not bought as a long term investment. It’s bought for enjoyment, so made sense to me. Plus it’s so common, it’s actually more unique with the ‘enthusiasts’

Thats very kind of you, not sure it’s particularly accurate mind! Old car needs someone with patience really and the time to sort. Happy to send you the details if you are interested, but it’s got no MOT currently so when I get around to outing it back together for sale someone will need to trailer it I would think. Sadly that means it’s probably going to only of interest to a breaker

Are you sticking with the induction filter or going back to standard Filter?

Thank you. Yep new battery terminal will be ordered as part of the under bonnet clean up. Which will likely be the first thing I do. Undecided on the induction kit to be honest. Car came with the standard airbox, I removed the induction kit from my old car. At the moment I’m swinging towards a silicone induction pipe, with new filter and a battery/filter cover. Obviously silicone pipe would be black.

More problem with owner than the car mate. I had a hissy fit, just realised I wanted to use the car and I was a long way from that point. It will be a nice project for someone given I have done the shitty bit, being the back end refresh. The car needs a new screen, the Dashboard is showing EML, airbag, abs light. Now I know the airbag is likely where I forced passenger seat forward in a huff, so will fix that tonight or Saturday. I know I ballsed up an abs sensor in the NSR and likely AbS system needs bleeding. Also pretty sure it needs a wheel NSF wheel bearing. Plus the replacement of PAS pump, AC compressor and alternator. Even then it will need some money spending on the body work.
I’m putting the car back together properly tomorrow and giving it a wash ahead of sticking it up for sale. Obviously going to blow a chunk of dough! If it doesn’t sell I’ll have to break it. But I don’t really have the patience or tools for that

Ah that's fair - I know the feeling, I have lots of bits and bobs to do on mine. I've often thought about swapping it for a higher mileage car with most of the parts already renewed.

Yes indeed, I'm guilty of not going that way enough I do go up to Rhayader Dams sometimes on my bike though. I'd intended to use the Flamer to go to Snowdon in February but it threw a hissy fit, fortunate really as there was flooding up there so taking the Tiguan was a good move.
