Scenic shifter

I'm getting a little confused as to why the scenic shifter is better than the standard one. Is it purely because of the longer arm?

The thing is I've seen this style, but is this just the pms shifter? Would it be possible just to add a steel rod onto the existing standard shifter?

This is the scenic and I believe the standard shifter together. Which model scenic do you get the shifter from? Mk1 any engine size?

That looks like one of the bms shifters mate, I'm led to believe it is the longer arm and as such easier reach of the scenic shifter that people go for (I've got a PMS one personally) but I believe they need bending slightly to get the position right.

The bms ones were made by one of the members on here, although his username escapes me right now, if you're after a scenic shifter then you're looking for the face lifted mk2 I think it was from approx 98-01, basically the last ones made before renault went to a digital dash in them

if you just extend a mk2 clio lever you will also end up with a longer lever movement to change gear
fitting a scenic one changes the fulcrum point to higher in the tower so you end up with the same standard shift distance to change gear

Ahh this makes sense! I was in contact with some breakers for the mk1 on ebay, and £45 posted seemed to be the price for the scenic shifter, reasonable or pricey?
Is there any modification required when fitting the scenic shifter or does it all bolt up the same? I prefer the look of the BMS one in the picture above so would look at doing something along those lines with a steel shaft.

Not needed mate he does the mod needed for the sorter trow n what not

one of the 4 base mounting holes need a little elongating but other than that they're plug and play

I paid £120 plus my std shifter. Its 165 without mate by the time you buy a shifter plus yanno kit your near there

Yeah had no issues mate.. must be some strong bond!

I've had lots of different types and the pms is for me, the best. Even if you kept it in the car for twelve months and removed before selling the car.

You will

1. Have the best shifter, imo
2. And sell it easily second hand.

In fairness tho the used market for pms shifters is very good you get near full price back

It's a lot of money for the PMS setup but the difference is night and day, I think it's worth every penny. I only use mine on track and once you're used to using it gear changes are so smooth in comparison.

But let's say the pms is the end result. Why bother messing about with the inbetweens?

I know it's expensive which is why more people don't have one. But after having numerous ones prior I'd save and just buy one.

Ive not used a pms but over std the bms is the best mod ive ever done on a clio i love it. Mines only a road car

PMS shifter is epic, totally transforms the feel of the shift with all the bushes etc in the linkage renewed in one package. Feels so mechanical and tight, like any good gearshift you've felt in MX5's, Hondas etc. Find somebody who has one and you'll be ordering one that night. I'll be getting one once I've bought some other bits.

Totally different than the Scenic one which is essentially a longer gearstick.

The two that spring to mind would be the big ass steering wheel. Oem or not, it's s**t.

The gearchange as let's be honest it's a bit crap. You improve as much as you can those two things and it's a different car. In a good way.

I don't know what to do now... I'd rather have an improved gearchange for the time being, then take it out and sell it when I can afford a PMS. Seems reasonable to me. A yanoo would take the sloppiness out of the standard shifter, which is mainly what I want.

Pretty sure the short shifts just destroy the very fragile gearboxes even quicker do they not?
