Scottish Specialists, share your recommendations

Following on from @Danny_172 's recommendation for wheels refurb's at Glentyan i had mine done by Colin today.

Very, very impressed. Superb finish and he even went to the extra effort of putting an extra coat of lacquer on to try and protect them a bit more from the aggressive brake pads i run. Very nice guy to deal with. Will certainly use him again for anything needing powdercoated

I'd recommend getting gtechinq c5 to seal them it works great I've it on my 2118's

Was back in at SWR today to get some work done on a Porsche Cayenne and i once again can't fault the work or time it took.

After a chat and bacon roll the Porsche had new disc's & pad's all round and a full service with a super price at the end of it.

Highly recommend Rentec.

My Megane 225 Trophy is going into them on Saturday for a new smf & clutch along with a few other bits & bobs.

Spent the morning at SWR in Stirling with once again a very happy smile on my face.
Got the following done -

Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Pollen Filter
Plugs
HT Leads
Full Check Over
Top up of coolant / Screen Wash

After that the new Sachs dampers where popped on the car and the AST top mounts cleaned up and re - greased

An amazing service with a good laugh.

After purchasing Trophy no.422 on Sunday I thought I'd best get a few prices for the following work:-

Cambelt & aux belts
Water pump
Dephaser
Oil
Oil filter
Air filter
Pollen filter
Spark plugs
Gearbox oil
Power steering fluid

Having used Rentec before they were my first call £927, then I called SWR they came in at £720....WOW!
I gave Rentec a call back to see if they could get anywhere close. Brian called me back 20mins later to say the best they can do is £740. He has admitted that they need to look at their pricing/supplier as the difference between the quotes is massive and to some may this may look like they are charger way over the odds but I genuinely belief this is not the case.

So I have booked my car in at SWR on the 8th March.

My car has never been to swr, but I spoke to them twice on the phone were really helpful and took thier time to give me advice, I was booking my car in for something and the guy told me don't waste the petrol a normal garage can do it fine.

That to me is huge plus to them, there honest and that is the no1 reason when chosing a garage.

I have heard nothing but good things about andy Gallagher at moorfield aswell, sone friends take there seriously fast cars there

Out of curiosity what did they charge for having the belts done. PM me if you don't want to post it in the open forum

I've used Campbell & Cameron for 14 years now and nothing is too much hassle. They may charge more but they're the best at what they do!

No denying that ! There s**t hot but that Simon guy does a very good job Atleast with the simple stuff , I wouldn't be jumping round and get a full custom off him I'd rather pay more at c+c but I'll be going to Simon to get mines decated cause the mani needs reflanged and I'd make a mess of it in work so best just pay to get it done haha

for the past year 2 so ive been going to Forth Garage Services in Stirling (about 15 seconds from SWR).

ive never had better service and Chris being a massive Renault fan boy - knows anything thats renault inside and out. Theyve bent over backwards to help me time and time again and i'm going back in on the 21st for a pre-csf service and check up, along with fitting a PMS carbon shifter, the prices are always excellent and the works top notch.

i highly recommend FGS for anyone in scotland and can say through experience that the work is excellent, definitely worth travelling to (easy for me to say as i live 10 minutes from them but i would if i had to!)

Please ask, I have a feeling they only do VAG cars. many thanks.

Would personally go to SWR who build and maintain full on race cars from 900BHP cossie's to BTCC Honda accords.
There is nothing SWR cant do and they are Renault RTE Trained technicians.

Chris has looked after my Megane since he opened, won't let a car go out unless it's perfect and ALWAYS goes the extra mile

SWR ain't the only good garage in Stirling these days.

I never said they where but I would rather have a Renault RTE work on my car than a VAG specialist ( just my own preference )

Once again I will keep my thoughts and opinions to myself on this one ??

seems EFI is about the closest highest regarded place.

Ive used EcoTune who advertise that they should be able to do a job like that but tbh id rather upload a TomTom map of Belgium to my ECU than one of their maps after my experience getting a STANDARD car mapped.

If you dont mind me asking what was your experience with ecotune ?
I got my wifes golf tdi mapped from them over 3 years ago, noticeable power difference, has done over 30k miles since and never missed a beat.

they are spot on for VW stuff especially APR as they are putting quality maps on.
I was looking to have my new DCi Clio remapped, the wifes car was done by Superchips via Bluefin but they don't support the Euro6 ECU in the facelift cars yet, I done loads of research on where to get it done and asked ecotune loads of questions and they said they could deliver exactly what I was looking for (low down grunt to improve the drivability of the car low down)

so I booked the car in, £450 for one of their highly regarded maps, I didn't mind the price as I just wanted a good job, the car was brand new after all, they had to remove the ECU to flash it on the bench as you cant flash the newest ecu via OBD yet (or couldn't at the time) it took 3hrs to get the map flashed as they were having issues and were having to get their technical guy in Greece to look into it. anyway they finally got it flashed and put the car back on the rollers, at almost closing time they came to me to say the car had made just over 120hp and almost 200lb/ft, great figures for the engine, but then I had a look at the graph and knew straight away something wasn't right, it wasn't making any extra torque until 3000rpm then was spiking up, given how long the gearing in these cars are you are rarely up that high as 2-2.5k is where the torque band is.

I Queeried it and the guy on the desk said take a few days to get used to it, im sure it will drive great any issues come back to us. this is the graph....
Map.jpg

the strangest diesel torque graph ive ever seen! a massive flat spot from 2-3,000rpm exactly where you want the torque.

so I grabbed the keys and drove it home, it felt standard until I got the revs up above 3000rpm and it would pick up, so anyway I emailed them explaining my concerns and they were spot on and told me something doesn't look right just get it back through they will sort it out. so took it back, they had the car for another 2 hours and had now moved the torque graph back to where it was picking up from 2500rpm, so torque coming in at 2000rpm, then flat till 2500rpm then picking up again, better but still not right, they told me to try it again and see how I got on, got to the end of their road and the car went into limp mode flagging up check injection.

went back in with it and they took another 1hr messing with it, now it was driving slightly better but still felt flat low down, I just accepted this was the way it was going to be and put it down to bad experience and was going to get it mapped by somewhere else to have it done properly but then it started spitting out the dummy at 70mph and cutting out so I took it into Renault and had it flashed back to standard at my expense.

jumping back from the eco tune mapped one into the Superchips mapped one was night and day, the superchips one picks up really strong from 1700rpm but runs out of puff higher up the revs where the ecotune one seemed strong, not that you would drive about over 3000rpm in it!

the guys at ecotune were really friendly and helpful to deal with but just didn't seem to be able to map it properly, ive had loads of remaps over the years some have lacked the polish of a factory map in certain situations but have always driven really on power to make up for it but this was just unacceptable.
