Serious I need help with my 182!!! Please help!!!!

Hi just done a 65 mile round trip not even flogging the car pulled up at home got a burning plastic type smell and then out of of the blue a strange whining noise thought it was the power steering so turned the car a few times and it's also whining when I accelerate!!! Need help any reply would be very greatfull!

Could be many things, any idea as to the location of the noise, i.e engine drivers side, passenger side?

Alternator would what my money would be on. Have heard of some cases with similar symptoms

Also the small aux belt idler at the bottom, they have a tendancy to go dry and whine.

indeed Alternator most probs mine just went in my 1.5 dci gets red hot and cooks the belt.

but cant rly say unless i have looked at it

It's the drivers side I've let it cool down and started her up same thing!? I'm 13 miles from home should I risk it? Alternator how much do you think? God just came out of knowhere! No warning lights either. Don't think the belst have been done and just creeping to 50k? Any more ideas? Thanks Nashy

Same with me when i was pulling away in first it felt like it just wanted to stall all the time then i could smell rubber pulled over poped the hood and saw the belt was simi smoking :dead: i went home slow was only about 3 miles tho.

Mine does exactly the same mate. been trying to figure it out. They sound the same symptons as mine. Does anyone know how much it'll cost?

renault quoted me 600 for new one (lol) and 200 to fit... f**k that or 200 for 2nd hand one + 200 to fit. So my 1.5 has just been sitting there for about 3 weeks 182 has been seein some action

Id be carefull driving it, if the aux belt comes off they have a tendancy to go under the timing belt. Just a heads up.

Mine did this, althought there was not much noise and it was the alternator. The burning smell was very strong and the unit got too hot to touch. Simply bought a second hand unit for £40, easy job.

Just spoke to mr brother who is a mechanic and he suggested because I've had every electronic gadget running might have given it a good roasting I'll keep you updated I'll have a major look in the morning!! Nashy
