Sharky's 172 Cup

  172 Cup
After 7 years I've come back to a Clio for a bit of fun, It's had a few owners, covered 103k however engine and gearbox have no faults apparent.
I have a large to do list which I'm looking forward to, I didn't want to pay over the odds for a mint example, I want to use and drive it.
A fan of OEM I plan to return it to close to original and improve it as I go.
So far I need to:
Change clutch
Remove the awful Apex springs
Install washer jet
Refurb alloys
Refurb steering wheel
New stealth exhaust
Lambda sensor
Service engine
Reseal rocker cover
Polish lights
Polish car
Change seating position
Remove seat stains and return car fresh smell.

Few more issues to sort, the n/s top mount proved to be a pain in the arse, looks like I'll need a new dampers and mounts since whoever fitted the springs previously used an hammer and chisel to tighten the mounts up splitting the thread.
Jacked the car and found a mix on the floor that needs some investigation.
On the plus I got the rears done.

Fitted new front dampers with the proline springs. As it had 4 odd makes and a random 205 width all worn I decided it would be a good time to refurbish the corroded turini's, opted for Conti sport 3's on the original 195 width.

Loving the plans you've got for the car mate, nothing beats an OEM well kept Cup. You've done exactly what i've just done suspension wise, it's a great setup for the money.

You got a side view of the cup on the prolines mate? Interested to see how they sit

Haven't got the wheels back yet.

With the wheels off, I'll have a bit of time free so the inlet manifold and fuel rail removed, not decided on paint or polish yet.
Oil leak looks like the vvt solenoid seal so I'll be ordering one this week and clean it up.

Wheels back from refurb, excellent job, said the corrosion was quite extensive, as we know is the norm with these wheels.

Went to take the oil filter off and realised the cables were in an awful state. The alternator is fairly new so I guess whoever fitted that is to blame! Before and after

Changed oil and took it off jacks.
Sat on proline springs:

Investigated the leak today, took the bumper off to wipe everything down, started the car and had a look around

Had the odd drip from the corner of the radiator, but the main culprit was the power steering sensor which had split on the top of the thread somehow

With both of the fluids mixed together in the tray made it slightly harder to diagnose.
New rad and sensor to find!

Took the old rad off, after flushing the coolant through to replace with type d.
