Haha, I was showing Tally where to go for her new job. She didn't have a clue and she started this morning! Chertsey seems to have very tiny roads now I'm in something a little wider.

From wing mirror to wing mirror, they are the same width.

Quick little update on the Trophy now ive been driving around in it for a week or so.

Obvious things that needed sorting when i bought it:

Front wheel bearing - sorted, but wasnt the front lol: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/show...ing-noise-not-wheel-bearing&highlight=bearing
Gearstick balljoint thing is knackered, so stick moves around all over the place when in gear - will fit Yanoo at some point
Fit new rear discs - done as part of 'bearinggate'
Fit new splitter - have Fabia one to fit
Fit new rear view mirror as wobbles all over the place - will do at some point
Refit exhaust as rear hangers are held together with cableties & expandable foam - not done yet, but irritating as vibrates on heatshield.
Fix Recaro seatframe as seat not always willing to lock in place - needs doing
Fit new Hazard warning switch as it wont switch off - removed atm as no replacement found in shed as of yet

Bits done in prep for trackday/ongoing usage:

Remove fog lights/arch liners - done
Fit DS2500 front pads for trackday - done, system does need bleeding though, pedal is rather soft/fluid old
Remove carbon vinyl stuff from door handles - done, was fitted by Feirny when he was pi55ed iirc.
Remove carbon stuff from dash strips - cub gave me some new ones that i'll trim with alcantara to match the a-pillars/gear gator
Remove 1 billion Trophy/no. 343/other stickers - not done yet, will do asap.
Purchase leather/alcantara rear bench & doorcards - purchased, not fitted
Buy/fit V6 airbox for added oomph - done, & considering the poor result at SRR (164bhp), it certainly needs something lol

Also, when fitted the rear discs/bearings, i was surprised to find the following:

Interesting - especially considering the fronts are standard lol. Rear dampers dont have the Sachs stickers either, so they're either fallen off or they're not the proper ones!! Not the end of the world as they're all rather similar anyways.

Only other real issue with the car is the front bumper damage (Feirny drove through his garage wall), but im not overly bothered about it tbh, gives it that perfect 'shed' look that i go for anyways:

So after the last minute wheel bearing swop on Friday afternoon, i got the tracking sorted and went to Bedford on Saturday.

Car went very well all day long, with no real problems to redress, didnt feel especially slow and kept up with most other clio's fairly well on the straights. Corners it rolled around like a boat in a storm, but thats to be expected as it stands really:

Borrowed some AO48's off Nick which seemed to be ok when really hot, but a bit naff when cooler, not as grippy as R888's i dont think, although im sure they are supposed to be? Was suffering from additional understeer compared to the previous T, but that might just have been due to being used to a better setup on the last T - was only running -1.5 on the front on this whereas it was -2.8 on the last one, rear ARB was also set stiffer on the last T. Easy enough to drive around it however, which some additional trail braking/lift-off it was sorted with amusing results. Sarah did mention that i was going a little too sideways at time, but i always re-assured her that it was me making it go rather light' at the back end :race: brakes were fine as i removed the fog lights/arch liners last weekend so no issues with overheating. Straight line speed it was slower than the other clios, but in the corners, i wasnt embarrassed tbh.

All in all, a great day, reminded me how brilliant clios are, & how much i miss driving a manual car on a day to day basis!!!

Awesome! But awesome enough for you to keep it?

Interesting about the bearing! You must've been disappointed to find out that that wasn't a factor for the lowish power at SRR?

Yeah, would have been nice to say that a goosed bearing made me 10bhp lighter, but i think its just down to the car being 100% standard. Certainly doesnt feel overly slow compared to previous 1*2's. Re: keeping it, no idea, will put the golf up for sale at some point, so it'll stay around until then at least. Half tempted to build a 'fast road' 330ci Sport, as no one has really done that before, but half the point of a clio is uber cheap consumables!!

The 330 coupe has just become such a meh car now to me. Buy one, realise it's not fun, sell, buy Clio. Want bigger better car, buy R26, not fun enough too expensive to run, sell, buy Clio...

LOL!

Dave, you're like a woman. Changing your mind ever 2 weeks.

Variety is the spice of life ... clio is epic on track, but its a bit easy to drive quickly tbh. RWD is something else to master, especially if you want to peddle it properly quickly. But consumables on track are hellishly expensive, which is what makes the clio so awesome. For example, the AO48's i used on Sat were already pretty knackered, but i didnt really wear them any more, still a good couple of days left in them - a 330 on the other hand would eat them within a day due to weight!

Is hilarious on track however, great giant killing ability.

They're great cars, but way too heavy as standard, very easy to pull 300kg's out of them though. People are still using cheapo e36 328i Sports for such use though, so the e46 is still a rare find on a track day - this will change over the next couple of years though i think, as all the e36's disintegrate.

Well, if it is out, the engine was rebuilt by DDC Doncaster, who are supposed to be good, so i wont be massively impressed lol.

Sachs will stay if i keep it, the H&R's were good, but i'd prefer to keep this one 100% Trophy, front end at least ;)

Who put those Eibachs in upside down?

Probably the same person who did the rear hub nuts up with their fingers :S

Your car seemed to be going really well Dave, you seemed to be getting a lot of body roll though.

Viki (Danlp6's missus) got quite scared when you came out of the pits in front of me towards the end of the day though. lol

Gutting that you've only had it a few weeks.

I can vouch for the engine, runs sweet! Car polishes up good.

AFPMSL! Surely you knew you couldn't use it? Sold the Golf yet?

Don't buy a 330 please.

Nah, have always got away with it before, but got a right sarky comment about it the other day, which i took as code for 'you aint using that thing for work' lol. Wont be buying a 330, have already put a deposit on something that whilst older, is ok apparently. Still a BMW though, if only in badge.

How much is it up for dave? I Can't see for sale threads anymore :(

Pm'd you!

  53 Clio's & counting

When he text me saying the T was for sale and said what he bought my text back was:

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Lol, love you really Dave, sad to see the T going, but I'm not sad as you're just like me, you will go 6-8 weeks before buying another ;) x

Made me laugh that you've sold it already.

Main reason for purchase was the Bedford trackday tbh - was informed on the R32oc that in one track day, the Golf would use the following:

Both front tyres - £300
Front discs/pads - £300

That, combined with the promise of 6mpg and insurance for the day at £85, suggested it was probably cheaper to just to buy another clio, then sell it again afterwards lol. Was hoping i could use it for work, but c'est la vie ...

Fair play Dave, was good to catch up none the less. Maybe you need to purchase a cheap PH1 for trackday usage.

Always good to catch up on trackdays!! Roll on the next one ...

Wont be after a PH1 however, ive put a deposit on something else that i can use for everything instead ;)

Clio sized, just a bit more 'posh' in the eyes of my boss lol.

I have suspicions it's a Mini. Of R53 variant. So when will you enlighten us Davide? If it is a Mini, then some simple mods will see strong power, and they handle well out of the box. No clio though ;)
