Slightly different type r/cliosport thread

  Scirocco 2.0 tsi
How come the general consensus (from what i have read in the past) on here is that they are an even match up to about 100 when the civic would pull away when the 0-60 on a civic is 6.6 and the clio is 6.9-7.1?

Just curious thats all, not interested in another "yer meerrrrt my clio wiv itz inducktion kit and 6" tailpipe duz 0-60 in 6 seconds i timed it on me fone whilst i woz drivin' thread, just wondered really, is it honda overstating their 0-60, clio's understating theres, or is a civic ahead to 60 then the clio catches up after 60 and then the honda pulls again at 100? depending on the driver of course.

IMO that .3 of a seconds makes sweet f*ck all difference in terms of a real life situation.

All I can say for sure, is that put up against a mates FN2 Type R (he owned a 172 and 197 beforehand), up to 100 I was genuinely ahead and he admitted the FN2 just ran out of steam. Mods to the FN2 were hondata, miltek catback, and gruppe M induction 'kit'. Mods to my cup (at the time) was just a piper 2.5" catback (he's now sold for a 182 though! lol).

I await Merks input though;)

in a straight line i doubt there would be much in it at below 100, its in the corners where the type R shows its edge, much sharper and less roll!

See this is another confllicting point as the general consensus i'd read on here was the clio handled better because its steering inspires much more confidence.

Again, I found them very similar in the bends (the cup was a bit 'sharper' though), but both were lowered (the cup on KW coilovers, the FN2 on -40mm springs).

The type r struggles with traction off the line making what I've owned a 172 cup and 182 cup quicker in my experience. And as for handling the Clio is miles better around the twisties although the civic is more stable around high speed bends. Very similar performance it's what ya prefer really and I prefer the Clio.

I have been in both cars, but imo there is not a lot of difference if they are both standard. Just what you prefer looking wise. For me thats a clio every time, although the type R's seats are awesome.

The quoted Renault times are conservative. When tested independantly the 182 has recorded a 6.5 0-60 time.

Can't comment about 197 v Type R as we have never crossed paths before, but my old Cooper S used to love destroying Type Rs, and I keep getting told the Cooper S ain't as quick....................
In the real world the Type R has a VERY narrow power band, and you can catch them napping quite easily.

On track there is nowt between most of the current hot hatches, if anything the superb handling of the RS cars makes our life easier.

All of these modern hot hatches have very similar 0-100 times, that's why.

Throw in the fact that AFAIK most of the 182s can hit 60mph in 6.5 or less. As has been said, there's f**k all in it. Too many variables. Including different types of power delivery. Chuck in my opinion that traffic light GPs are for losers...

So basically what your saying is your s**t at them and lose everytime.
Racing off the lights is a way all types of motorists can enjoy there car from 17 year olds in novas to 60 year olds in a Renault scenics, no1 gets hurt either as it usually ends as soon as ya hit 60.

I can't even be bothered to type a cutting remark.

Cs gold! How are traffic light gp's enjoyable? Quickest way to wear the clutch and box. There's either more chavs than I realised on here, or it troll feeding time. I couldn't give a flying f**k who can beat me at the lights. A monkey could be trained to do that. Get it on track, where 0-60 means bugger all!

Exactly. I'd wager half the heroes on here would be off in the first gravel trap.

I've never raced any chavs off any lights in my life. Not every1 is into taking there cars onto track either if you actually look at the point I made it was that every1 on the road can do it and be safe.
You say you care about your clutch and gearbox but you would go on a track which takes the most life off your car. Your right it must be troll feeding day here's a chicken bone.

i'm going to get an immigrant to wash my car today for me. should make it faster iirc.

Any road/track any day munson and I would show ya what a hero you are. You always love the talk but no1 has seen ya walk the walk.

What with your heroic one gear change skills, you'll no doubt leave me standing out of the pit lane. Remember to indicate and give me permission to pass after the first corner though ;)

Well looks like we have the same car so there would be no excuses.

f**king hell, lighten up. Even if we did ever end up on track together, there would be no racing taking place. Firstly because we'd be black flagged and banned, secondly because I don't fancy some hero binning his Clio into mine in a pissing contest.

I see a plan coming together. Getting all the inferno's in one place at the same time. I'll bring the matches. Now if we could only do the same with gingers.........

Contrary to the threads title, this thread distills down into the same old, same old...

The answer is simples ==> 0.3s is a teeny-weeny difference. It's nothing to do with a Honda mis-quote and more to do with quoting cars with *very* similar straight line performance.

*sigh*
