Slightly worried bout my mate and his insurance!

  1 Series Coupe
Right my mate has a pretty good nick escort 1.3... he is 17, and the insurance is registered in his step dads name.. it is costing his 1300 (TPFT) to insure this thing with tesco...

the thing is he is abit of a rudeboy/chav, and wants to 'pimp' up his car... he has got his alloys, air filter, side skirts, spoiler, ICE, M3 wing mirrors, lexus front and rear lights, and his front bumper and rear bumper are on their way... he is adment it looks the nuts... but it jst looks bitty and tacky...

but the thing is he isnt planning on telling his insurance about any of it.. and his parents are fine with it... am i right in thinking that tesco insurance would run a mile if they knew he had all these mods? i think his parents are stupid, especially his step-dad for letting him do it without declaring it all!! some people just have no sense...

Speak to JoelDee about not delcaring mods.

It's fine so long as nothing happens.

Things that can happen:
Crash
Run someone over
Gets stolen
Catches Fire
Get a producer and they check for declared mods (not sure that happens tho)

Best to declare mods.

i had mods not claimed on my clio 17's springs and tints i crashed it and wudnt dare phone the insurance up coz they'd just bugger me off once they saw the car anyway, so i fixed the car myself changed my insurance and i have all my mods claimed now even my 2.0 conversion and the price isnt that much different but it saves the headaches and sleepness nights

there is no such thing as doing it legit and legal if your insuring your car your parents name. Your the owner of the car so the insurance should be in your name. dont get me wrong i did it when i was 17-18 but there is no way i would do it now, its not worth the risk.

You might get paid out but if the insurance company want to be funny they will be and will refuse your claim.

If you've got mods declare em , otherwise if you need to claim you'll find your insurance is void so you'll have paid alot of money to the insurance company for nothing , you might as well not pay the insurance in the first place if your that stupid .

If in anyway you make any sought of claim they will cancel cover and state reservation of rights, then it will get passed to the fraud unit who will then either be nice and just cancel your policy or cancel your policy from the start date thereby he would have no insurance for the period he was with that company.

If your policy is cancelled by insurer it is hard to find someone else to insure you.

Just out of interest do you have to declare ICE?

Most policies cover upto a certain value. Best having a look to see what yours is on the policy (if any at all) and if it needs increasing then ring them.

indeed ... i come accross it all the time. people dont disclose things then we cancel the policy and thats them fucked as any financial product with the company is cancelled and its near impossible to then get another insurance elsewhere as you will have 'the black mark' on ur name and be recognised as committing fraud.

My insurance got voided for not declaring mods on my old clio...mods were: twin straight through zorst, lexus lights, alloys and tints!! At the time i didnt have a clue about declaring mods to the insurance and my mates had never mentioned it!! After a year of my mom fighting the case and claiming that the policy wasnt worded properly or state wht mods were (with churchill).... the financial ombudsmen wrote to us saying that churchill were wrong to void my policy and that the cancellation would be taken of my name!! Result!!

how does this work? if the cars in a parents name and they have an insurence policy its quite acceptable by almost all companies i got quotes from for a 17 yr old to be a named driver on that policy. in the long run i know its not best because no claims doesnt build up etc, but insurence on decent cars for lads at 17 is ridiculous.

yes they will give you quotes thinking its your mothers car and youll be using it every so often but it being your car and mainly you driving your car/mother has own car then the claim will be declined.

declare all your mods, i think people must be retards sometimes not too. it really isnt worth the hassle. Put it this way if u crash into someone with no insurance your pretty much dicked have to go through courts and all sorts. Tesco charge a lot of extra premium for mods, and only allow 5 iirc so he wont have any insurance. Tell him to sort it out, or dont mod simple.

  Clio 1.2 16v
Iv got a 1.2 16v Dynamique, 17" alloys, lowered 60mm, LED rear lights, window tints, peco system, pipercross viper kit, £3500 worth of sound kit (Impact Audio showcar) and custom install, Clifford Viper 480VX cat 1 alarm.

Im with tesco paying £2050 fully comp, courtsey car, legal expenses, £300 compulsory excess and Im 19. IMO its worth declairing mods. If I stack my clio into a tree, or it gets robbed I get prettymuch the exact same car back.

No offence but your mates a dumb ass :p

Adrian Flux wanted £3500 fully comp for me!!

Are you sure about that? Most insurance companies will give you market value for the car, you pay more because the modifications make you an increased risk rather than because the insurance company will need to pay out more!

Also if you're prepared to pay that much for a modified 1.2 you'd might as well pay the same amount on a proper car (172 etc...)! ;)
