Sold a car that doesn’t exist!!!!

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a new clio extreme 3 15.DCi(65) for £7975 with alloys. I thought this price was good tried round loads of other places and couldnt find one for less than about £8.5k.

I was called yesterday by the dealer who proceeded to explain that he cant get me the car as they dont make them any more!! I was offered 3 options

a) a clio dynamique (ex demo) same engine with 800miles on the clock.

b) a new clio expression same engine and alloys.

c) cancel the deal.

I am going to take the first option. Anyone think different?

Dave

whats wrong with ex demo ok its had the balls ragged off it but who gives a f**k it has a warranty and lets face it you will be using that warrant anyway ex demo or not

DEFO 1 - good price if 54 or 04 - thats a 10K car!

dynamique is higher spec and special editions tend to lose value quicker cos they date (badges and trim)

** WARNING: ADVICE from a Dynamic dCi owner ** ;)

Cheers thought it was good for under 8k!!!! Whats sort of MPG you getting out you DCI??? I am driving 30k+ per year and my megane 1.4e with 115k on the clock isnt up to much any more. They are giving me £160 for it at trade in!!!!

Whole thing sounds WELL Dodgy, what kind of dealer sells a car that doesnt exist.

its a special edition! - the dealer probably sells 50 different models of Reno - not unusual for a special model production run to run out

ok its had the balls ragged off it

do you really think that a demo dCi would be thrashed? would you test drive a 70HP car and cane it? would you even be testing one if caning was intended??

172, 182, 1.6 16V etc YES - a ex-hire or ex-Renault staff car - YES!

ex-demo - I doubt it

CHECK its a PUKKA UK car with a Warranty (and check date of first registration cos cars can be MUCH older than the plate)

IF its a MINT 2004 UK car - No PROB!

My old Dynamique Dci was an ex-demo. It was probably the most reliable car Ive owned. And it was ragged from day one as I knew the salesman.

I loved that car! :(

Ive had this exact thing happen to me.

I ordered a Clio Liberte, 1.9D. THis was a limited edition based on the old RN model. Waited and waited, then the dealer told me there were no more. I complained bitterly. Eventually the dealer supplied a 1.9 RTD (much more expensive car, like a Dynamique). I was well pleased.

DONT Trade-in - gotta be worth £500!

http://www.autotrader.co.uk www.autotrader.co.uk is £15 for 2 weeks on-line

a decent diesel with history and moderate mileage (yes 115 is moderate) will be snapped up

- I got £1400 in 3 hours for a MINT L plate 19TD RSi with 86K last year!

Clio dCi MPG?

65 without any effort (70 on the motorway and MIXED)

70 normally

75 with gentle driving

when you start up click trip to average and its surprising how easing back a few mph and accelerating (and braking) gently can bring the average from 60 to 75!

the difference between 65 & 75 is well over £200pa on 30K

** keep a steady momentum **

P.S: my orange light comes on @ 9.3 gallons, so easy a gallon left without worrying (I have managed to go 115 on orange and get 51 Litres in)

Kinda commited to the trade in car is mint other than the drive shaft is beging to clunk. Will cost a bit to fix that. Engine and gear box are fine. Its petrol so 115k not so desirable.

MPG on the clio sounds well good. Need to learn not to drive like a bus driver using kangaroo fuel!!! Get bored sometimes ;)

black kro

im not saying punters will have ragged it but they wil have been giving it some most prob without it been warmed up and the monkey mechanics will most prob been using it for the butty runs.

but my comment was to griff who said he would never buy an ex demo car and the reason i gave was the reason most people give when not wanting an ex demo car

Who would rag a Clio? Think of potential customers..why would they? You get to drive them round the block, i dont understand the bad stigma attached to ex-demos all the time..

dogmaul - fair enough mate ^^

Disco - Dont let a MINT motor go for peanuts! fix the shaft for £100 and get another 5 on top!

the buyer is always right - youre buying

worse than ex-demo, I bought an ex-Hertz hire car in 99!

an 18 month old Turbo D Xsara with 10K on the clock for half the new price

nothing wrong with it at all - went like a dream 100 all day long on motorway

did 35K in it in 18 months and only lost £1600 when I sold it private!

CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP MOTORING

Thanks for the advice everyone. Much apreciateed. I will let you know how the new motor is!!! And one day I will have a job that doesnt require 110 miles a day then I can get a sport!!

Cheers Dave
