Some 172 tuning questions

  2005 Audi A3 3.2 Quattro

1.) Im going to be replacing the std mk1 172 platinum spark plugs with some non precious metal ones...any suggestions, as I dont want to downgrade spark performance (reason Im changing the plugs is to be able to run 102 leaded racing fuel. car is already de-catted)

2.) Foam or paper replacement filter?

3.) What is the max RPM that is still reletively safe for a 172 to rev to? Ive heard of up to 8500 RPM, and seen the vid of 8000 RPM

Thanks guys

my clio lived with 8000rpm for the entire time i had it.

Why 102 fuel, and why the plugs.......alone you wont really see any gain.

Well, the car is currently running on 93 unleaded (which is all we get here apart from the leaded racing fuel)

Ive removed the cat because it frees up a little power just by itself and because the lead screws up the cat, and the plugs need to be changed because the lead screws up the platinum.

So going from 93 to 102 will at least get the car to stop retarding the timing, which should give me a few tenths.

This with a replacement filter and the SMT6 at a later stage should give the 172 a nice improvement for very little money.

ps. How long did you have the Clio.
